              Hi guys/gals,
My server cannot be a permanent solution, unfortunately. If my boss knew that this UBB was being hit a lot - it'd be the most popular site on our server, and he would want to charge someone hosting fees.
Also, in october this has to go from here, as I'm leaving and they'll want to remove this from the server

So I hope we've moved onto greener pastures by then.

It's up to Ant now to find another host, anyone got any offers?

              Cheers,

              Steve

Is there a reason why Matrox can't/ shouldn't/ won't pay part (at least) of any hosting fees? Since they don't have a newsgroup server of their own? And since they do use these forums to communicate with their users? It seems only fair....

I understand that there may be good reasons to maintain at least some measure of independence, but they shouldn't get a free ride, either, it seems to me...

                  Well, here's my new name...

First time I lost everything in the shutdown. Apparently, like Joel said, if you tried to post during the crash "process" (did you ever see a server crash in slow motion??) you lost your setup.

DAMN!!! It took me almost a year to get up to 150 posts and now i'm back to 0!!! I'm going to have to start posting more!!

It got me too. Some my prior posts are there but there is no link to click on, Uhm.
How about getting in contact with the people that run Sysopt Forums.

                        Here is there link

The servers there seem to be pretty stable.

I am not sure if I would want Matrox paying the bill for this site, I don't know it just seems like that we would lose some of our independence, and then lose some of the pureness we have. Maybe I am wrong.

                            I think you're right, MattRags

Don't forget that on a Matrox-server they'd be changing the drivers every month orso, and with that we would all lose out nicks...

Guys forget about Matrox paying any running costs I've been there they would want these forums and my news strictly moderated. Any dissenting voices to be removed, anything that gives them bad publicity to be removed. I would be NDA'd up to the eyeballs and not be able to speak without permission.

Why are we still with GA? Well if it wasn't for them there would be no MURC they came to the rescue when I was about to lose it all. The cost of running a network like the MURC is huge we suck up an enormous amount of bandwidth. I looked into financing it myself when we lost the free server and it would have cost me every month near enough what I actually earn. I know advertising banners are a pain in the neck I hate them but just ignore them or think of how there would not be a site here without them.

Yes there have been a lot of problems with the forums and no one is angrier about it than me but the GA guys are committed to getting things fixed, it's not just the MURC forums that are affected by it.

                                Master Ant,

What ails GA? Disk space? Bandwidth? Incompetent sys.admin.?
