  • Questions about new G400...

I ordered a retail G400 about a week ago from bunta technology, and it is getting here on Monday. I have a few questions:

    A) I have a 486 fan. Should I screw this into the heatsink, or is it not worth it (I hope to overclock this baby for all she is worth!)?

    B) Currently, I am running my P3-450 @ 124x4.5 = 558MHz. Can the G400 handle the 124MHz FSB = 83MHz AGP bus?

    C) I would appreciate it if anybody that has bought a G400 would post their overclocking results.

    TIA!

    Hi chrikenn,

I would say screw a fan 2 your heatsink. I did 2. and others. there R some reports of very hot G400's......
Especialy when U wanna overcock this baby.
I overclock mine with G200clk, not nowing all the features of G200clk, but I use
    g200clk /1 290 /4 30
where /1 = system pll clock
where /4 = memory refresh counter.
    works fine 4 me.....

just wished what all options do.
So, I 2 would appreciate it if overclockers could sent in their results of overclocking a G400......
    Thanx in advance.....

      I run G200clk /1 300
works all day no problem, I the a 16meg DH card.
why do you use the /4 command anyway? Is it faster?

i have an oem g400 vanilla overclocked to 306
using g200clk and "new" powerstrip offers up about 210/160 stable.guys around here dont recommend using the powerstrip though.i have mounted asink on each ram module and a ppga heatsink and fan for the core ill be posting pics soon.it will go farther on powerstrip but i keep it around 210/160 before adding the additional sinks and fan it overclocked to max speeds anyway.hope this helps

There's a good reason many of us recommend staying away from Powerstrip. It can damage the G400s BIOS. This is not a rumor. It's been reproduced by many people, including Matrox tech support. G400 support is being removed from PS because of this. If you continue to use it, at least make a BIOS recovery disk for when it eats yours...
