  • Solved heavy probs with G400 !! (TD, AGP1x, low speed...)

    Hi everybody,

if you read the forum carefully the last few days, you may have noticed a lot of postings from me concerning problems with my vanilla G400. I suffered from several problems like TechDemo not running, only 1x AGP tranfer speed, more or less slow speed during gameplay (I knew the G400 can do more ...), slight instability and so on.

So I did a little research with Haig and a few more guys (THANK YOU for your help) but nothing changed. And we tried a lot like editing the registry with several hacks, reinstalling DX 6.1, changing the AGP Aperture Size from 32 - 256 MB, ...

But the reason was: I had not installed the usbsupp.exe from Micosoft ( should better be named Macrosoft :-) ). I knew what to do when reading the USB-support-page from INTEL. They state expressly the most of the common AGP cards need that USB-patch to run properly under all (!!!) versions of Win`95.

And that`s what I did. Pcilist now reports AGP 2x transfers, the card is ROCK stable, Techdemo is running flawlessly, and hey - Colin Mc Rae runs like HELL now !!! It`s a beast in D3D !!

So, Haig, ALBPM, Kruzin, Jorden, Joel, Maggi and all the others who help in here a lot (I owe you a lot of respect) please make sure FIRST if the usbsupp.exe is properly installed.

Greetings and thank you again for your help

    MK

Of course you needed that. I don't mean to sound rude, but it says right in the manual that you have to install that supplement. You did, I presume, read the manual?

        Hehe.

I'm glad you got it going though.

          Hi!

After playing around with the ALiAGP registry settings, I finally enabled AGP2x for my G400!! pcilist and Sandra'99 shows AGP1x/2x capabilities in both ALi AGP controller and G400.
          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ALi\ALi AGP Driver\AGPDataRate was set to "2" from "0" and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class\Display\0000\Settings\CPU\AGPFlags set to "-1" and AGP2x was enabled!! :-D

Anyone knows what is best settings for FrameBufferSize (currently value is "C") and GATMode inside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ALi\ALi AGP Driver\?

            Hi everybody,

latest news: please be super-careful when installing the USB-support-patch. My system got screwed up !!

Please refer to my latest topic "Be careful ! usbsupp.exe screwed my system up !" and feel free to post there. :-)

ANY advice would be appreciated. And take care until we know what`s wrong.

hilo, my G400 can't work in AGP 2x, only 1x. I'm running Win98 with the latest driver from Matrox. My motherboard is FIC VA-503+ and I've enabled AGP2X in BIOS. No luck, SiSoft Sandra 99 Standard and WCPUID reported AGP1x only. How to solve?
              Good Luck

Installation of the drivers is key. Here is a step-by-step:
First uninstall your G400 drivers using the uninstaller. Restart, go into your bios an make sure your AGP aperture setting is to at least 128, while you are in there, disable "read around write", save your settings and exit. after windows boots up, install the latest VIA AGP drivers IN TURBO MODE, reboot, then install your G400 drivers, reboot, then install the IRQ miniport Driver from VIA.

Thanks, but I've solved it another way. I used PD5 registry hack - ForceAGP2X and PCIList shows it's AGP2X.
                  Good Luck

                    Hi!
                    I have same AGP1x problems as LokTo do, but I'm using AsusP5A + o/c K6-2 448 (112x4).
Turbo mode set to "Enabled" in BIOS and installed latest v1.60 AGP drivers from ALi and also DirectX 6.1 and PwrDesk 5.13 drivers. No AGP 1x/2x setting available in BIOS
PCIList and Sandra'99 both says AGP1x and I think its the setting of the motherboard that is making my G400 run at AGP1x.
Other than the AGP1x problems, my G400 had been very stable since!
