  • G400 memory chip cooling

    Greetings Terrans:

I recently purchased a 32mb G400. I am very happy with it. Since I plan to overclock, I am putting a Lasgna fan on the video processor chip. I was wondering about cooling the memory chips. Is this necessary? Any responses would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Sincerely,
    John K. Emmons

Those memory chips run red hot. Most of the heat comes off those chips as well as the main processor. I ducted air from a fan blow across the chips. I don't know if that will help stability though. Might want to test it by overclocking your card's memory.

You can always get small heat sinks and use thermal epoxy to glue them onto the chips. I've seen people do with with other boards and they can clock higher (as long as the engine core is cooled well also).
If you try this, just make sure it is Thermal Epoxy, or Thermal Tape(works well, but not as well as the epoxy).. normal glue or something like that doesn't transfer heat well and will end up frying the chips.
