You can tell tombman (as if he isn't you - or at least reading this himself) that ALBPMs benchmarks wont do him any good, since Pauly's a beta tester, and he is not running the same drivers tomby is...not to mention all the beta testers are under NDA, and not allowed to quote scores on beta drivers...

Of course, if Paul wants to take the time to load up the release drivers and bend to tomby's bidding, he's more than welcome to do so, though I can't imagine why he would want to do that

(BTW - if you aren't tomby, how much does he have to pay you to put up with his BS? )

kruzz you mentioned that the g400 max's that dont pass the post assembly process are speed binned down to g400 vanilla.i was curious if you have any info on what that post assembly process entails.you know what does matrox consider a go or no go situation
do they fire them up and measure some temps on the ram and/or cores or do they run some sort of benchmark like we usually do.

          Hi deprived,

I already went through all that back in the old thread. I'm in the process of get a new Hard Drive going. So I won't be switching drivers around for the G400 for awhile.

To those who say "there is no need to O/C a MAX or a regular G400, they are pleny fast"...Give me a break ppl! Are you telling me that you would rather play Q3 at 1024X768 with highset quality at < 35fps or > 40fps. The choice seems pretty clear to me!

              Update on my "almost Max"...

My G400 is now installed, sort of... Not stable at AGP2x, DVD output jerky. Otherwise, it is a bit faster than the G200. Well, it is only a K6-2 300 (for the time being), so what do you expect.

Going through all the thingies here... Via drivers, Creative DVD 2x drivers (if only I could find decent ones), etc.

Has anyone actually managed to get decent DVD with a K6-2 300? My CPU is 80 % idle when decoding, still it is very jerky, so I am concentrating on the DVD drive drivers.

Just run the standard Windows drivers for the Creative drive. But make certain that DMA is enabled for that drive in the device manager...

instead of debating the fab process...

How does the MAX's overclockability compare to the vanilla's? I will be overclocking whatever card I get, and my budget is forcing me to consider the non-max as an option...
I'm primarily a gamer, and am going for fancy graphics as the icing on a high-fps cake.

(Stupid marketing... Matrox is a canadian company, and I can't even find one dual-head in calgary. hrmph.)

GehRehmee, just order straight from matrox. They shipped mine Purolator overnight for a mere $12 extra. They probably wont hit the shelves for at least a couple more weeks.

Kruzin , better watch what you are saying because you are near STARTING a flame bait which will result in YOU getting banned ;-)
(as if a beta tester will ever be banned ..HA)
I did not know that you are used to pay for having friends ....hehe.
Since the things that tombman has to say are NOT BS i am very honored to post what he has to say , he often helped me with my pc !

                          Have a nice day ..

I Heard someone talking about OCing Pentium3 450Mhz's. THough this is off topic, my OC retailer buds reporting the OEM Pentium 450's OC better than the Retail ones! Pretty cool Eh. THey even look different (in fab). I have a bud selling Pentium3 450s (OEM) with a fan pretested at 600MHz. A real nice OC. The cost $299 though.

Did you see what Kryotech did with the Athlon? They overclocked it to 800mhz!!!
                              Here is the link: http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/99q3/990813/index.html

Now if they could do that with a graphics chip!!!! I'll bet you could overclock this chip by 30-40%. If I only had a 50 pound refigorator under my computer!!! Damn, its not there again! Now I have to wake up!!! It is really funny that people are talking about how they overclocked there Max already, and I am sitting here wondering if I will ever see a Max on the market? I am using a TnT2 Ultra now, thanks to Best Buy's 30 day moneyback guarentee!!! hehehehe but I wonder if the guarentee will expire before I can get my grubby hands on a Max? This waiting is starting to drive me up the wall. I can get a regular G400 but I am a speed demon, and need the speed. Anyone know how to get a Max before my 3 weeks are up. Then I have to go back to my Monster Fusion!!! Sucks big time!!!

Specs: PIII 450 (not overclocked...Yet!) TnT2Ultra, AsusBX6 motherboard, 128megs 100mhz ram, 8.4 gig Maxtor(should have bought a Western Digital) 44x cdrom, 4x4x24 Ricoh CR-RW(can burn any software on the market from the newsgroups!!!)

                                Kruzin,

thanks for the suggestion about the driver... but that is at least what I thought I had. I do think I enjoyed a few minutes of almost satisfactory DVD one of these nights, after having forced the Win98 SE to use VIA's bus master drivers.

However, currently I get an "Another program is preventing DVD play" error message from the Matrox DVD Player.

                                Well, maybe some day.

Of course, this "sub-thread" has nothing to do with this topic, but since it started here...

Hee... I get about 2200 on 3dmax99, 800*600, 16-bit... time to change the processor... Not overclocked G400 :-).

                                M.
