Heres some Framerates to mull over comparing
the ASUS Ultra Delux card (TNT2 Ultra) against the G400 Max.
System spec is Overclocked PIII 503Mhz
256 Mb Ram running off a P2B-S board.
Quake II All resolutions at 32bit, sound on)
Asus card overcloked to 165 / 220 all card features on. G400max overclocked to 155 / 207
Latest drivers for both cards used.
1024 x 768: Asus 58.3
G400max 64.0
1152 x 864: Asus 46.7
G400max 54.0
1600 x 1200:Asus 27.5
G400max 29.5 (5.11 drivers)
Good old D3d Test ....
Fill Rate: Asus 98.24
G400max 111.36
Polygon Asus 1788.56
Throughput G400max 2075.76
Intersection Asus 16.09
Throughput G400 Max 23.50
As for visual quality well apart from the G400 probs with OpenGl (odd artifacts and so on)theres not much between the two.The G400 display appears to be less "Blurry" than the TNT2 being the only noticable difference.
Bump mapping is nice in Expendable but gives one hell of a performance hit, a quick guess would say it halves frame rate at 1024 res with all graphic options on.
As for 2D the G400 wins out, the picture being crisper and clearer than the TNT2.
I would say theres not much between the two cards at the moment. Matrox has its Open GL probs but is faster with a clear sharp display. While the TNT Ultra drivers are more stable but the card is slighly "slower" than its rival.
