Mystique G200 produces Screen-Errors

Hi I´m just new to this great forum.
I got a prob with my Mystique G200 AGP:
under w95 and w98 it produces garbage on the screen. Parts of text are corrupt, sometimes full lines of text. some buttons of windows dialogues appear in wrong colors and it happens that when I scroll a page there are big black lines across the screen.
Tried a lot of bios- and windows-settings but it´s still there.
Got the latest drivers and bios.

My System is:
P233, Tyan Trinity 1590S, 128MB, Teac CD-524E, SBLive Value, Yamaha DS2416, Quantum 2,5GB UDMA, Maxtor 4,3GB UDMA

Hi there

Have you installed a 8 Mb memory upgrade? Some of these are not original ones from matrox and could give that garbled screen you talked about.

No, the card is running with 8MB.
I think there is a problem with the VIA-MVP3 chipset and the card. Has someone experienced the same?

Yup, this is mentioned in several recent threads, but here's what you do. Download the latest drivers from Via's website (get the 4 in 1 driver file). Switch to a standard PCI adapter and uninstall the G200 drivers using Matrox's uninstall utility (available on M's website), reboot and install the via driver package, then reboot and install the latest G200 drivers (PD 5.13), and reboot. Also install the drivers in normal mode, and disable read around write in your bios.

Downside to it is, guys, that I have those problems as well, lately...

I have an Asus P2B, bios 1010, G200 8Mb, and when I change my resolution to 32 bit colours, I have some the same problems, or more like: Open a window, close it and a big black box remains on screen and in the taskbar. The menu under the START button is black.

It all goes away when I go back to 16 bits colours.

I must add that these problems started happening since I changed my monitor frequency to 118Hz Vertical, I'm now down to 100Hz Vertical, and still have those problems...

Something odd in the PD5.13 maybe??
My iiyama should be able to run 118Hz V at 1024x768x32b without any problems!!

Hi again,
exactly the same here as Jorden said.
I got much less problems when I use 256 only colors. When I switch to 24bit colors it´s worse. When I switch to 16bit it´s really terrible.
So why is it better at 24bit than at 16bit?
Any answers?
Btw.: Thanks for the replies, I will try the given hints now.

Ok. I've got an Asus P2B 1010 as well with G200 8MB... Now I haven't had any problems switching between 16 and 32/24, but I haven't upgraded to PD 5.13 yet. And am reluctant to now. But I'll give that a try tonight. I'd be really surprised to see an Asus board incompatibility, but hey. Maybe. I also haven't upgraded my BIOS since I got the G200.

Time for me to go home and try to destroy things.
