The only two new boards that support UDMA66 drives are the Tyan S1598 (updates the S1590) and the Epox MVP3G2 (updates the MVP3G-M). The Tyan only has a 100 mhz FSB while the Epox will go to 112 mhz. But I think I read somewhere that the Epox will soon have a 133 FSB option. You might want to get the owner's manuals from the web and see if its available with 133 FSB.

Both still only support AGP 2x. If you plan to try overclocking, it looks like the Epox is the choice. However, for what its worth, Anand says the Tyan is the more stable of the two.

Both should support K6-3's and their extra current draw. Only the latest revisions of the FIC boards will, according to AMD, but many people have successfully used older FIC's with K6-3's. Check AMD's site for "certified" boards for the K6-3.

I haven't heard of any Ali chipset boards yet that support UDMA66.

Not true, FIC just released the follow up to the 503+, the VA503A. I have already built one system with this board, and it seems pretty nice.

Avoid TMC boards - HDD compatability problems. Gigabyte GA-5AX and Asus P5A are OK.

Well with my experiances with Via chipsets I would keep clear. Using a Aopen Bx motherboard and never had a driver problem with anything I fitted.
I can't comment about the Ali chipset as I never used one.

When we've build SS7 PCs, we have had a lot less problems with via than with Ali. Jetway boards are crap, as are PCChips. Not impressed with Gigabyte's either. Haven't had too much trouble with TMC's boards, but someone a few posts back obviously has.
I haven't tried Asus' or Epox' or FIC's so I cannot comment on them.
          I recommend Abit's BX6r2 though!

Thanks for the input...I ordered a Epox MVP3G-M, after all the reading I did on the web. Don't really need the UDMA/66 support, and the MVP3G-M is about $15-$20 cheaper than the new -G2 model. I know the ASUS P5A is also good, but remember all the problems with flashing BIOS on the Vid cards. The TYAN 1598 reviewed well by Anand, except the bloody chipset was an ancient CD revision...how did TYAN even find the old rev's is beyond me...figured they were all flushed ages ago. Will give me pleasure beyond belief to pull the old Amptron PM-9700 out and bust it over my knee, then send the pieces back to Amptron. NEVER buy from Amptron or PC Chips, and never buy ANYTHING with a SIS chipset. Ever...

Need to trash an SIS-based MB and replace with one where AGP actually works. Looking at: FIC PA-2013, ASUS P5A (or P5A-B), and Tyan S1590S. Or is there another I should check out?
Any and all replies are appreciated....

Personally I have an Epox MVP3G-M rev 1.0, and it is rock solid stable. I'm running an AMD K6-3 450 @466 and haven't had any system crashes or anything. I also had no problem getting an old MGA G200 running in agp 2x at 115Mhz fsb.
They have a newer version out now that has udma66.. its the MVP3G2-M. Just something else to look at.
Oh yeah, as for the Asus, I remember some people having problems with the G400 for some reason, but it seems to be fixed in the newer revisions of the mobo.

                    put the SS7's down,maybe I'm lucky but I've
never had a problem with em.I think alot has to do with how you configure them.Anyway's

                        Echowars,

I think you made a wise choice. I also have the EPoX EP-MVP3G with the K6-2/400 and have had no problems with stability on it. And with the G400 I do get 2X DiME mode AGP without having to do any forceing in the registry and performance is, IMO, very good.
