Well, apparently lurking here for the past few weeks while waiting for my Max to arrive managed to rub somfin off on me. For, after pulling my TNT out, tossing the Max in and a driver install later, not only did it work, but it worked without a hitch. 
Actually, all this took place a few days ago, but I've been so busy playing games again that I somehow managed to forget to come back here and deliver the good news.
Anyway, a belated thank you for all of the unsuspecting help from you regulars. Sure it wouldn't have happened without all the late night reading sessions. Catch you all later.
