Have you tried loading setup defaults in the bios? Could be something in the Chipset section. Have you got another (different model) AGP card you could try? Might confirm its the MB not the G400.

You might have to get drastic. Strip everything non essential our of your PC, (sound card, modem, etc) so all your slots bar the AGP are empty. Load setup defaults in the bios, check the CPU voltage, clean install Win98, install latest drivers.

9 times out 10 its a software thing. Hope something i've said helps.

Haig ... ah ... so ... is it likely to do me any good to try to call Matrox tech support about this problem? If they already know about it and are working on it, it would just be adding another voice to the choir ...

        Hi Rob,
Can you please try using BH bios version LH instead of LN. Hope this helps.

BC, it wouldn't hurt if you send an Email with a detailed description of your problem, with hardware/software/configuration information, and your findings so far.

There's always the possibility that Matrox fixed another problem, or that the fix doesn't work in the real world...

Well, the new 5.21 drivers are somewhat better with regard to the problems I was having with my Abit BX6-2.0, but not entirely. I still periodically get weird lockups with totally scrambled screens. I've re-applied the force AGP1X registry hack and the lockups are gone again. Better luck with the next driver update, I hope.
