  • Bugs and Irritations in Powerdesk 5.x ... please fix these

    1) Since installing the 5.x driver release, when my card/monitor comes out of power-saving mode, the screen is positioned 1/3 in to the right of it's position when Win98 starts. The position is constant and does not change as the monitor warms up. This occurs whether using Matrox Monitor or Windows monitor settings.

To verify that this is a 5.x driver issue, I did a fresh install of Win98se and the 4.51 drivers. The screen movement did not occur. I then installed the 5.x drivers and the screen position moves as described above.

For additional clarification, this is what I have to do: I use my monitor's controls to position the screen correctly for the "wake-up screen position". Whenever I restart Win98, the screen appears skewed to the left so that the left side is cut off. I then select Standby from the shutdown menu, but then immediately wake up my PC. The screen is now correctly positioned.

    2) The additional options shown on the Options sheet with ShowMeAllMatrox=true do not function. Checking or unchecking them has no effect.

    3) Please decouple the color management feature from the 5.xx drivers. This renders more advanced 3rd party color calibration tools (eg. Colorific, Adobe Gamma Loader, etc) totally useless. I'm not a professional graphics artists, but I'm sure you are receiving many complaints from them.

    4) The new monitor settings UI is terrible. There are way too many steps involved is setting a custom refresh, but more importantly, we are forced to go through the steps for each and every combination of resolution and color depth! There are 22 resolutions listed each with 4 color depths. That means I have 88 different modes to set up! Please allow me to set a single refresh rate for a resolution regardless of color depth.
