  • Vsync off doesnt improve scores

Turning off vsync in registry doesnt improve scores:
    5.21
    Vsync on
    Quake1 Bigass1 timedemo
    1024x768 - 47.4fps
    Vsync off
    1024x768 - 47.4fps

So I don't think it's vsync being on that's affecting the GL performance in 5.21. BTW, is there anyway to turn off vsync in Q1? I think it's vid_wait 0 in software mode. Not sure about GL though.

Did you see this thread, and does your registry check out OK?

          Hi,
I too see no difference at all. I checked registry, deleted everything under desktop, installed 5.21 drivers and checked out. Matrox G400 is definitly on 0000.
With vsync on in Quake 2 1024x768x32 I get 63 FPS. With Vsyn off I get 63 FPS. No difference at all.
Autoexec.cfg is also set to Vsync off. I don't know it is fast enough but to me Disabling the Vsync does absolutley nothing for Open GL.

Ditto... There is no 0001 or 0002 or whatever. Only 0000. And the registry hack IS applied to 0000 - checked. Therer is no difference at all. Quake 3 timedemo 1; demo q3demo1.dm3 gives 13.8fps. I suspect the problem is in some routine that is used only in the part where there is the open scene and everyone is jumping around shooting at each other on the stairs. That's where it halts to below 10fps. Averaged with the rest, it probably gives the 13.8 figure I see.

I'm getting the same results. Changing the VSync settings makes no difference to my Q3Demo1 scores:

                640 X 480 = 37 fps
                800 X 600 = 27 fps

I have tried changing VSync via the registry, the Q3 game options page and the r_swapinterval console command but none of these seem to turn VSync off.

By the way, it is nice to 32bit Z buffer support working with no performance hit.

And thanks to all the forum regulars trying to sort out the driver problems. Help is much appreciated.
