  • So you guys not satisfied with G400MAX

I ordered it about 7 days ago, and I came to this board.
Everybody is complaining about the performance and use of this card (uh sorry, it's not the card - it's the driver) Sure, halfway.
I think about canceling this order, cause you guys really make me think what piece of crap this is for still 270 US-$.

I am really into DVD and 1.Person-Shooter (so OpenGL is important - I know it's not that good - but is it to be improved - have a guess!)

Is it worth the money - or not!

Answer quick, before I'll buy something that I don't need.

    Thanks,

    Don

I believe that it is worth the price.

There will always be something bigger/better/badder, but for the moment, this is it.

OGL - it works well, it will get faster.
D3D - it rocks. It will get faster.

    Are there bugs? Yes.
    Will they be fixed? Yes.
Does everyone agree with me? No.

(That's the great thing about the internet, everyone can post his/her opinion, as long as it's done in a respectable manner).

Did you say "bug" ? You mean "buck", right?

Hope the G400 hasn't many of it... ;-)))

I am an unhappy matrox user...
after 5 days of ownership, i have still been unable to get it to work in opengl, and am still unable to get it to work to my satisfaction, even after 18+ hours of long distance tech support

I too was considering cancelling my order.
But i got it ,installed it ok,set it up with the new drivers and its great.
              G400 MAX that is.
And that is with a soundblaster live (after reading posts here i was sure it was gonna give me trouble. But nothing wrong at all)
Also i have not had to reinstall any games or other software, so i am really happy.

Happy owner. While there are still some issues with OpenGl (especially using large textures) the D3D is very fast. Almost all my games run great and with the best image quality of any card I've ever owned. The OpenGl is not up to the level of the TNT series of cards but it is getting better.

This is some reasons I'm a happy g400 max owner:

Right now I'm currently at the web, chatting IRC, rendering a scene in Lightwave 3D, playing mp3 music on sonique with an awe vis plug-in, playing starcraft brood war now and then (alt tabbing and creating another building here and there while downloading the TS iso ) and watching everything run smooth and bug free on my dual p3 450@504MHz set-up.

And this is with Windows 2000 build 2099.

And no no 3D games work cus direct X is disabled.

When it comes to Windows98 however, I've run all my games at a very good (35,5-75,5) framerate in 1024x32 (rollcage, half-life, quake3, quake2, quake1, battlezone2, expendable, rogue squadron, descent 3, system shock 2 and forsaken). some had to be tweaked and system shock 2 still got very interesting doors.

Other than that... I'm happy for sure

It hear a lot of people complaining about G400+OpenGL, but I don't think I ever heard someone complaining about the G400MAX being a sucky card... I think that says a lot.

Happy here too. Even though I had problems getting it to work with the 5.21 drivers and had to do a few machine wipes.

I sort of expect this behaviour from ANY new bit of hardware I put in my machine and it's especially true with the latest hardware. Nice when it doesn't happen though, and to be fair the thing did work straight out of the box BEFORE I installed the 5.21 drivers.

                              And now for my .02

I am definitly happy with the hardware itself. I love dual monitor support in a singla card and if your in D3D (this is all my personall opinion, please no jumoing down my throat) it's wonderfull. My big beef is with OpenGL, as I have yet to get decent performance out of the game I want to play, this beeing Half-Life. When installing 5.21 I actually couldnt even run it, and even q3 dropped from 40fps in 1024x768 to 20. No reg hack even worked, and besides, you shouldnt NEED to do reg hacks to get a board to work properly.

So basically, if you want to beleive that Matrox will fix these openGL issues (you think the G200 openGL fiasco woulda tought someone a lesson) go for it. Otehrwise, I'd think about it twice.
