Do not post Javascripts in these forums. I have HTML enabled which can be risky, people using it to post scripts like this are going too far. The next person who does so will be banned and I will disable HTML support for the entire forums.

    Ant,

Could you apply that to GIF-animations and Applets too?
Some people tend to sign their messages with animations, which I find inapropriate.

I agree with not using javascript. I think it should be disabled, because anyone can register as a new member, and IE having more holes than a chees, someone could post a malitious applet.
But to disable it you have to disable HTML, right?

Hey but you have to agree it was funny

Ant, can you add a function that searches for certain keywords the would mean javascript or an applet has been posted and then instantly delete that post when someone submits it?

Yes, that would be really easy to do if you used Perl or some other scripting language.
I'm sure some of us (like me) would even volunteer to help.

I think GIF-animations should be OK.

Well I'm afraid it's an all or nothing, I either keep HTML support enabled and trust people not to use scripts or applets etc or I disable the entire HTML support.

So people please no Javascript or Applets and I'm going to be very firm on this. It's taken a lot for me to get this server set up and I'm not going to see people screwing it up.

What's brought all this on then? More babies playing silly buggers and trying to show off?
I was not here yesterday, so I seem to have missed something....

I will for the time being at least not post my wizard.gif nomore, until I find a way to shrink the big bugger down to something more feasable

Ant: Could you tell us if it will still be alright to bold, italicize, or underline? I would really still like to be able to do this and perhaps add an illustration. Agreed, adding checkboxes and such is really out of hand, and putting them into a thread is unacceptable, but part of the reason this forum is so popular is that we have a lot of smart, creative people here, and seeing Jorden's Wizard or Paul's Darth Mahl Signature brings a certain levity to the proceedings.

I think we all appreciate what you do here and agree that you do a fantastic job, and I don't think any of us really want to make your job any harder than it is. I for one do not want to do anything on here that would crash or otherwise mess up the new server, and I wasn't aware that adding pictures or boldfacing might do this, or I would NOT have done it. I did not and would not add checkboxes or such (That really was going too far). Applets can really make a mess, it's true. I will respect your decision, though, and not use any html language in my posts.

By the way, I know last night's funfest did get out of hand, but it was also probably the funniest thread I've ever seen here. Too bad you had to delete it.

I don't think Ant ever said you couldn't bold stuff. It's the scripts and applets that he's (understandably) upset about.

You're right. I misread. When Jorden said he would retire the Wizard, I thought it was all out the window now.
