Could be some competition for SGI and their visual workstations maybe. Those things are so unbelievably overpriced and under-value. Their stuff actually isn't so cutting edge anymore.

*ami, who is in 640x480x16colors waiting for PD 5.15 to download.

    ... but that's 640x480x16 on a max.

A laptop is advertised with a 'durable magnesium case'. Does that mean if I let it get too hot it'll flash into a blinding sphere of light?

Fear not. There will be a GeForce killer from the halls of M soon enough.

Yeah, and you won't be able to get one until the generation -after- that is on the shelves

*phz, finally G400MAX'd, but hasn't run anything on it yet. (t+28 minutes, all is well)

            Hi there
Wow, the thread has grown since the last time I´ve been here...

One more thing about T&L aceleration: I think that the games need more than a patch to work with the video card T&L (I´m talking about direct3d here). The game engine needs to use DirectX transforming and lighting engine, and AFAIK, there is not a single game using it today. And why? Because it SUCKS. Every game developer was able to write software T&L much more eficient than MS DirectX.

So: how´s the T&L engine in DX 7.0? I wouldn´t be surprised that a game using DX7 T&L hardware acelerated was slower than a very good coded software T&L done by the CPU. Now that would be a good joke

OpenGL may be another story, thought. Nvidia can write the T&L routines in the ICD, and I don´t doubt they will do it properly.

Well, I have to say that the GeForce won't be such a bi deal for gamers to start with. But not everyone wants to play games only.

I want to use my card for games and 3D animation using 3DS MAX as do others. If the GeForce GPU is any good it will be a godsend. In 3D apps textures are not a big deal as final rendering is done very slowly and by the FPU in the processor.

A graphics card has to be able to rotate zoom and modify high poly objects/scenes and this is what seperates a 250$ card from a $2500 card. A geometry processor.

games are fine but not asll that a computer is good for, otherwise you probably ought to buy a dreamcast

Dreamcast? I'd never buy a console which runs a Microsoft OS.... I'll wait for the PSX2 thanks.

LOL, I wasn't being entirely serious about the dreamcast, but a lot of people forget that video cards are used for art and design, 3D animation. There will be a hell of a lot of GPU's sold if it works well in NT with a full GL ICD
