Himself: I dont know where you get your information but GeForce cards are due out the end of this month and october. Ebworld already has the Guillemot Prophet on their list. As for driver updates. Nvidia has improved openGL perf in every release I have used, and I never had any of their leaked beta drivers bugger my system.

The map the scores come from is from cs_desert I think. I run the same config as Sander and I have the same framerate also. What kind of system do you have to get such framerate? And is it always 40 or is it just a corner you're looking into?

Yeah Kruzin, how the hell did you do that!?

Machine specs, level, driver version, etc.

I don't have the CS mod to try out that map. I tried the first beta, and wasn't too impressed, so I haven't bothered getting the latest version.

And this FPS was certainly not looking into a corner

It is a little above average in this scene. However, I generally have no problem running in the low-mid 30s (which works for me, since my fps_modem is at 25 to get a playable game)

Please tell me how you are running the Half-Life benchmarks, and I will more than gladly post my results with system specs. etc. Not to start a flame war but, the reason people are really getting pissed is the repeated blunders by matrox. Remember the g200, this time though the stakes are Higher because we all forked out $300.00 for a video card. That is alot of money for a video card, that should be smoking out o box, with practically no problems. I'm not quite ready to bludgeon matrox yet. I'm waiting about another 30-45 days.

To get the little fps counter, go to your console and type these 2 commands:
                developer 1
                host_speeds 1
                Core2 Duo E7500 2.93, Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, 4gig 1066 DDR2, 1gig Asus ENGTS250, SB X-Fi Gamer ,WD Caviar Black 1tb, Plextor PX-880SA, Dual Samsung 2494s

Looks like your fast bus and clock speed do the trick because I use the same gl settings in my config except for the texsort one (is 0 here, i'll test the 1 value right now). But still, I didn't expect that the g400max would beat the tnt2(ultra) but i hoped for somewhat better than voodoo2....

The results I was getting with my old P2-350@412 where not that far off of what I still get. I still had no problem running in the 30s with the slower processor...

Ok, actually, that gl_texsort is the trick! On voodoo it should be zero, but for the g400max it should be 1. I had a 60% fps improvement when I turned this on. I have no idea why and what gl_texsort actually does but it makes the opengl icd much faster. I hope that matrox can use this information to find the issue in the opengl icd.

The performance is almost as fast as my voodoo2, but I know that the g400 can do better

Not long ago I removed my old Monster Fusion video card & with the innocence of youth installed my new G400 - I remember that happy giddy day, the expectation, the excitement, HOW COME MATROX SCREWED THAT UP, they have my money all I expect is a product that is all it was advertized to be, if they can't understand that then the world will be shed of them soon enough!

If you don't mind, please tell me how to enter the "gl_textsort 1" in HL to get the improvement. Does anybody know what is "gl_textsort"?

                            Thank you in advance.

                              Sorry I made a typo

                              It´s gl_texsort

Put that entry it in your opengl.cfg file. If there isn´t one, create it in /sierra/half-life/valve/hw

Better yet, copy Kruzin´s cfg file and put it there.

I don´t have a clue about what it does, maybe hmmm, sorting textures?

I only have a breif definition of gl_texsort, from wherever I picked up the tweak:

"setting to 1 will improve color greatly, but at a big performance hit. Set to 0 if you have a low frame rate problem. When using 1, set "gamma" to 3.0 and "brightness" to 2.5"
