VBEXT.EXE in Autoexec.bat

Hi,

What does the vbext.exe (or vbeext.exe - forgotten and I'm at work) do that the G400 drivers places in your autoexec.bat? I assumed it was something to do with DOS compatibility and VESA 2.0 blah blah but I think I assumed wrong ...

It is for DOS vesa compatability. Not all vesa modes are built into the card's bios, and that util will support the rest.

If you do not need that vesa support, it's ok to remove that line from the autoexec...

Thanks Kruzin, I did have it rem-ed out, but let it load last night, and my system was super stable, no lockups, no graphical glitches with my vanilla 16mb G400 - life was perfect . Must have been a coincidence ... Maybe that last driver reinstall of 5.21 I did has finally got it ... Either way, I think I'll just let it load now

the VBEXT.exe in my Autoexec.bat made my G400 DH 32Mb run smoother as well... not too much lockups/crashes.

Maybe it adds something to the PD5.21 drivers??

After I removed it from my Autoexec.bat, my Win98 wouldn't load nomore with the G400 in it though... with the G200 it loaded completely!! So I guess my G400 was broken from the start and I had it RMA'ed...

Will be hearing from it, soon I hope

Errr ... I don't even know what RMA means.

As for this line in autoexec, my G400 hasn't missed a beat since I let it load. ZERO lockups, ZERO Win crashes. Mind you it's only been 2 1/2 days, but my G400 NEVER went this long without locking up. Just hope I'm not speaking too soon.

Anyway, if anyone is having trouble and, like me, jumped the gun and got rid of this line in the autoexec, let it load and see if it helps ...
