I opened this thread so we can compare our scores in Q3Test (OpenGL) and see whether our systems are optimized or not... As u all know there is no startdard in benchmarking Q3test, until now everyone is sending there our setting and scores which doesn't help anyone.
As I see it there are two objectives when posting benchmark scores:
1st one is to see whether the g400 and its drivers perform well under our computer.
2nd find out what setting is best for our gaming (especialy for online gaming).
So, my suggestion goes like this:
first we need a stadard to perform our benchmarking. to check our video card only it is best to turn off the sound system and deside which setting we will all use, I think this is the best:
In graphics setting:
-------------------
resolution - 1024x768
GL extentions ON
color depth - 32BIT
filtering - BILINEAR
texture quality - MAX (4/4) and MAX-1 (3/4)
geometric details - HIGH
texture colors - 32BIT
In game settings:
----------------
Marks on Wall - ON
Ejecting Brass - ON
Dynamic lights - ON
Lights Flares - OFF
Identify Target - OFF
High Quality Sky - ON
Sync Every Frame - OFF
I think the game settings is the cause to the big differences between users benchmarks its very important to set them to the same settings ! the difference can go up to 20fps !
with these setting and 5.25 drivers + Beta ICD I got 37.6fps (textures to MAX 4/4)
the new beta ICD IS GREAT !!! its much better then anyhing before.
I tried the Non beta OpenGL... it seems that there is still a problem when using MAX texture quality, it got better and from 13.6 with 5.21 i get 23fps with 5.25 (both vsync off) and with 5.13 i get 25fps... so they know for sure about this problem and fixing it... I don't know why the beta drivers are old dated and why they perform so well but they do... I really would like it if Matrox would attach a readme file that describes what arw the changes and what was wrong with the previos drivers but... they don't!
I tested the new beta ICD for about 2 hour and I'll post my full results soon... What I can tell u is that there is a huge (10fps) penalty for using Trilinear filtering and that setting texture quality to MAX will cause only a ~2-4fps decrease... depending on the resolution and other setting...
