A laptop is advertised with a 'durable magnesium case'. Does that mean if I let it get too hot it'll flash into a blinding sphere of light?

Unfortunately, that "durable" magnesium case is only durable against impacts, sharp objects, and scratches.

Intense heat is quite specifically not covered by the warranty.

Thanks for the help Gurm :P
      (sarcasm)

And the point of the sig is, that, Gurm, Magnesium is flammable, and burns at like a zillion kelvin. It's what they use to make road flares and fireworks and stuff. If they're making a laptop out of it - if it gets too hot - well, eesh, nevermind

Anyone, does anyone know if maybe Matrox sent me a Max that isn't a Max?

Well, with my vanilla Fo=252, so you seem to have a MAX OK.

Takes alot of temp to get it going though, so make sure your cooling fans spins.

There is like no putting that stuff out once it gets started too. Kind of like an absolute....

How much MHz is the MAX suppose to be?

              Fizzy,
I think what they are trying to say is that the the UBER CLOCK (tm) of the MAX is @ 300 and with the ratios that Matrox uses you get 150/200 just like you are supposed to.
This is good, you lucky stiff

                PH,

                Yes you have a max.

The PLL clock is at 301.x (302), while the RAMDAC runs @ 360.

You can push it however. I've hit as high as 340 (with minor artifacts).

That resulted in over 400 FPS in the 2MB texture test at 800x600 16bit in 3DMark99 Max Pro.

But, since I like image quality, I lowered it back to around 325 or so.

I refuse to confirm or deny as to whether or not things that come in contact with my lap burst into flame.

Ah, but it's 'durable' magnesium. Maybe it don't burn so easily (as if it's easy anyway). Why magnesium though? I think it's plain and simply for the looks. Some other material would be cheaper and more 'durable' but not as light and doesn't look as nice.

go on, set light to it and let us know what happens..

I heard to prevent the laptops from exploding, they're being coated in a thick translucent goo. At least that's what that user told me when my hands stuck to the keys. I still think it was spilled mountain dew...
