  • Resetting region in matrox (cinemaster) player?

Hi, i selected the wrong region (1) while installing the Matrox DVD program, and off course when I selected the right region (2) later, the counter was 1 of 5. I tried to reset it with Region Selector version 1.73, 1.93 and 2.00 but to no avail.

Does someone know how to reset it without, reinstalling windows (again!!!)?

Region info is stored in your cards BIOS. Reinstalling Windows would not do it.

What would do it would be if you made an emergency BIOS crash disk when you first got your card. Re-flashing the original BIOS will reset the region counter...

Actualy I know reinstalling windows does work, because I had (before I reinstalled the whole thing) just renamed my windows and program files directory and to test I started with my old windows, and there the setting was still on 0.....

        Simple solution:

on this site www.visualdomain.net u can find a program call "Remote Selector" this program can change the region on all the popular MPEG Decoder and also included is support for CineMaster Decode engine... download this app and u'll be able to change to region WITHOUT increasing the multiplier... (btw the multiplier is set in the windows registry not the bios... and so is the region itself).

it's a great app for all the popular Decoders, for the CineMaster only region changing is supported but for other PAL to NTST convertion and MicroVision and many other functions that you can now control urself like 50Hz and 60Hz output (most decoders know to traslate only the color coding from NTSC to PAL but they leave the output at 60Hz and some TV sets can't handle more the 50Hz so the colors are find but the picture bumps all over your TV).

I reinstalled windows and it reset the counter... another intersting point is that for Matrox to store the counter in the bios the software should be written for the g400... U can claim that the ver of CineMaster that comes with the card is acually optimized for the G400 but what about other versions of CineMaster ??? I had a version older then the G400 and still the same counter... even when I installed the new ver. that comes with the G400 I stayed with the same counter... I really don't thin this is in the bios.

Cinemaster stores the counter in the windows
registry. AFAIK that's an official key that all DVD-Players access. Even if the supplied
Player would be able to modify the BIOS (which i doubt) other players won't.
The only thing that would come to my mind is that the Matrox drivers read the counter themselves and store it in BIOS.

OK, for the sake of argument, that somehow the DVD Region code # of changes is stored in the bios of the G400, what happens to it when you reflash you Bios, does it skip the region code part, or does it start at 0 again, it the latter is true why would Matrox bother putting it in at all!!!!

I will reinstall windows tonight, but I'm pretty sure it is saved in the regestry somewere. Because I uninstalled Matrox DVD player, and when I reinstalled it, it still noticed that the code had been changed twice, while when I did this(uninstall, reinstall Matrox DVD player) on my "other" windows version it said I had changed the region code Zero times, while if it had been changed in the bios it should have been able to notice this!!!!

What could be possible is that matrox stores the info in its drivers someware, but then a reinstall of there drivers would get writ of the counter.

Ummmm strange thing, maybe someone who really knows can help us out.... HINT.....????

OK, official word is - I am wrong, the G200's used the BIOS, the G400's don't. It's all in the registry.

OK - it was the G200 and the Zoran player that stored the region changes in the BIOS. G400 does it in the registry...

Hmmmm, I have no problem at all changing the region, (Cinemaster DVD Player bundled with the MAX), with region selector from www.dvdutils.com, just make sure the 'reset counter' is checked.

I know the region selector works, but the two times i changed it, i changed it thru the Matrox DVD Control Penal, and this left my region selectors on 2 out of 5 changes used.

But luckely now i found out where the cinemaster saves this setting, and have been able to reset it to 0 out of 5 changes. It was quite a simple procedure took me less then 5 minutes.

So problem solved, if anybody wants to hear the solution just ask me? Like I said it is quite simple but takes some time to explain.

Actually, Matrox does store in the BIOS the region and number of times changed. Whether the DVD player is picking this info up after a re-install is another matter, so it seems....
