  • UDMA and DMA

    I have UDMA DVDROM
    Toshiba SD-M1212
    it is UDMA
but when i check DMA in DVDrom properties
is sais, it may result in bad things (however it is said)
    and asks ok or cancel
    i click on OK
it asks me to restart my computer, when i do, i go to dvdrom properties and dma is not checked!!!!!

let me guess you have a SS7 mobo? If it's VIA, use their VIADMATOOL program. Basically just install the appropriate IDE drivers for your system and don't use windows'.

Even though it is not ticked, are you sure you're not already in UDMA mode? I've seen this happen on SS7 mobos before. And, after all, the athlon boards are more SS7 than PII...

This has very little to do with Matrox Hardware. Unless you have Matrox HDD.

Oh, but it's Maxtor! I guess it has nothing then.

Although this is a question better posted in general hardware,I'll state what I've observed with udma cd-roms,etc.It seems to do with programmed io,in other words,it already runs udma33,etc and does not seem to respond to dma enabled in control panel. However,on my system (get the same results)it seems to run udma33 and everythings fine.So don't worry,be happy
