Rags - You're right. My eyes are getting too old. Anyway, I tried enabling it without effect on the default AGP1x/2x issue.

      Thanks for the try.

I tested the AGP1x and AGP2x under the same conditions, saw no difference with 3DMark.

Hm, so it appears that it works fine for you because (for some as yet unknown reason) your system won't run in AGP2X mode and that (perhaps) mine will, but the G400 has some sort of a driver bug preventing that from working properly.

For the record, everything on my system is set to exactly what it should be as far as FSB speed, ec. I'm not doing any overclocking, bus speed manipulation, voltage changes, etc. I have just about all the BIOS parameters set to their defaults (OK, I do have Set NumLock Off and a few other inconsequential things like that set). This is about as plain vanilla a BX-based PIII system as you can get.

Crashing on a splash screen - wierd I had the same thing but with Gravis Keyset Manager instead of Lotus Notes. I think its a driver problem - I had to reinstall windows to fix it, but you might try cleaning out your matrox drivers /files /registry entries (try the Matrox uninstaller utility)and reinstalling the drivers first. Its a long shot sorry

Actually, as long as I make it use AGP2x, it works fine. I don't see any difference between it and AGP1x.

I've done the MAtrox uninstaller/reinstall thing 4 or 5 times now, and this was a clean install of Win98 SE in mid-July with very little hardware churn since then. I'm not going to reinstall it again. It takes me the better part of 3 days to reinstall all my apps.

Well, the new 5.21 drivers are somewhat better with regard to the problems I was having with my Abit BX6-2.0, but not entirely. I still periodically get weird lockups with totally scrambled screens. I've re-applied the force AGP1X registry hack and the lockups are gone again. Better luck with the next driver update, I hope.

Nope. There have been two new driver drops since I wrote the above and still, the only solution is forcing AGP1X. I even did a clean install of Win98SE on a separate partition. Installed just the OS and the 5.25 drivers. Same problem. Trying to get the card replaced now to see if maybe I got a bad one.
