  • Best way to attach fan to G400

    Hey guys

I have attached a small 486 CPU fan to the G400 heatsink with scotch tape, but I fear that the heat will cause the tape to come off. What would be the best way to attach a fan to the heatsink?

I would prefer not to mess with the heatsink itself, but rather mount the fan on top of it.

    Thanks in advance.

    Rahul

screws. it may make a couple marks, but nothing that a little testers paint can take care of though

Ya, get screws that just barely go in between the small fins. Make sure they are short enough. They will actually thread right in and hold great.
Take your board with you to the store if you have to and open packages until you find the right ones
Actually the right ones for me, just fit through the holes in the fan (I used one from a regular Pentium socket 7 chip).
In a worse case scenario, if you are going to use tape, my god man, use Duct Tape! Ask McGyver, you can fix ANYTHING with Duct Tape.

I use superglue. It works great, and the same pentium fan I used for almost a year in the G200 is now in the G400. If needed, the fan can be removed fairly easy.

I've got an old pentium fan on mine. I could use two skrews. Although i tried to bend the fins of the heatsink the skrews don't feel that firmly skrewed in. In addition, I also used some superglue (isocyanate-glue of some kind). Is this type of glue thermally resistant? After all, the fan hangs upside down, and I don't want it falling off shortcutting my mobo.

Meccano holding the fan next to the graphics card...
Or cut a hole in the side of your case like some of us have....

speaker wire works great if you want a fan on BOTH sides of the card, I have the rear fan on the card pulling air away so as not to blow cpu heated air onto the board

I used screws, now I use superglue, because my frontside fan is bigger than the heatsink

                    Both have pros and cons.
