Anyone who seriously thinks that using Win2k is rediculous because it has a lot of bugs (as beta) when compared to released Win98, you are so clueless, it's kind of sad.

NO matter how many Win9x based OSes Microsoft will release they will all suck greatly. They will all not be stable enough to live through the day without a reboot if you use it seriously.

Beta Windows 2000 has much less bugs than Released Windows 95/98/SE! It's the only Microsoft OS that works right. It's as fast as Win98SE, as stable as NT4, and as cool as your dream OS.

I've been using Win2k as my primary OS for a year now, with Win9x as a secondary OS, and it's been a joy to use it.

Tell that to my neighbor. RC1 completely wiped his hard drive, dual-boot and all.

I never said using 98 was a good idea either

Who NEEDS to render and play on the same box? Smart folks have a 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc machine for 'tasks'.

Wombat, you friend is either computer illiterate, or has a very nonstandard hardware (this is the common reason for Win2k failing - it being a beta OS). In either case, he doesn't really understand much about computers cause he wouldn't get a non-standard system (if it's the second case).

I know tons of people who have been using Win2k since Beta2! and not having any major problems (early builds were incompatible with certain sound cards, didn't support CDRs, and other stuff like that - most of it is fixed now)

Greebe, why is that so funny? I figured what prevented it from doing an upgrade - NT4 drivers I hacked into Win2k in RC1. You see, RC2 has out-of-box support for Aureal Vortex2 chip, but RC1 didn't. Upgrade messed that up - new settings, old drivers.

It's pretty natural it would fail on that one.

Also, upgrading any OS is asking for trouble. This is also true with Win9x line. Old system files are left behind, registry has left overs, etc. If you install it onto a fresh partition (clean install) you never have any problems, so instead of hacking upgraded install and waiting for more trouble to come by, I decided to reinstall.

btw, there was an added benefit: using the same NT4 drivers for G400, I now don't have ANY artifacts on Win2k!!! In RC2 there are no lines across the screen in the applications that used to produce them in RC1.

Again, you just have to know how to make Win2k work - not that difficult either. Once you are done, you can forget about system configuration. It just works all the time and no problems whatsoever.

SteveC, Ami could be a name of an indian fisher. I'm from norway and know a lot of paki
Also, PurpleHaze don't mean much either.

sorry for being ignorant, that is...

Zypher, I don't afford more than one machine, and this happened to have two instead of one prosessor. When I finally got the chance to render my latest AWE Lightwave(tm) 3D animation while I frag ROMs ass (yes I happened to meet him at a common server once... ) in Quake3test at no speed-drop, I was more than excited.

Ok, maybe it don't mean too much to you, but what do you know about such things anyway

DAMN. win2k forever. Hey, just my feelings.

Uh I don't know SMP? Try quad bud. NT4s. No hackneyed beta BS. Adaptec quad ethernet card too. Running 2 q2 servers and 1 hl server on a lan. All 28-32 players. Very full. Someone got to use work stuff during the weekend and bring along 'a few' friends.

I bet the main reason the police keep people away from a plane crash is they don't want anybody walking in and lying down in the crash stuff, then when somebody comes up act like they just woke up and go, "What was THAT?!"

Easy CD Creator 4.0 is incompatible with mga64.dll under Win2k - blue screen whenever you try to start any of the applications in that suite. Now, I finally have a reason for waiting for real Win2k drivers for G400... for now, I'll get back to using 3.5c though (that one works perfectly).

P.S. Gotta love a video driver that would fail because of a CDR app and work just fine with things like Photoshop

I am asian, however I live in Wisconsin, and even though I do live in Wisconsin, I don't fish. I am also not a fish. Yeah I'm female but, Maybe make my username FluffyGigglyBouncyBunnyLace or something? Umm, no.

(insert something witty here. Early in morning.)

Aaanyways I thought, or at least heard, that there was going to be an interim release between Win98se and Win2000. Something that would make the upgrade smoother. I dunno, RC1 is actually real stable, surprisingly. But I know it won't support my old TB soundcard and
                            i'm sure there's a bunchosoftware it won't run.

Yeah, Windows Millennium - Imagine Win98SE, but NO DOS (oh no!!). You cannot shut down to DOS, and there is no DOS during boot up. It has a lot of the kernel swapped for NT coding (sorry, win2k coding), and so don't need DOS no more.
And if ANYONE knows where I could download it, PLEASE tell me!!!
