  • Benchmarking and just Playing a game.

Some of you out there test the G400 and other cards with Benchmark programs or the Q1 to Q3, HL, UT timdemo variety... test it with Benchmarks... did you ever try playing the games with your G400/other card??

I do wonder what you do with your vid-cards... hang around in Windows alot and not play a thing just benchmark??

Well if that's your way of playing your fave game go ahead, but all these benchmarks are starting to make me puke!! Am I glad she's coming over and we go away for a whole week together, so you can benchmark yourselves to death... at least I don't have to read that damn stuff nomore!!! "God I lost 5 fps in 'whatever' and now my timdemo is slower than my friend's piece of shit card" ...

I at least play my games, don't benchmark the hell out of them, for every new benchmark you make will give different results, but you won't register.

Sorry... I don't envy you. I just like to play Unreal and Sin, both very good in OGL, Unreal extremely good in D3D/DX7.

So, Ant?? Maybe a Murc-RANT forum for all those who want to say how good their non-Matrox card is, and maybe a Benchmark forum, for those who want to whine about their lost fps??

Jorden, glad to have this off his chest!!

    whoa ... Jorden ... what's up mate ?

    Too many numbers error ?

    ...

I find it quite interesting to watch the drivers grow and mature and the best way to check it out are benchmarks.

"don't benchmark the hell out of them, for every new benchmark you make will give different results,"

Yes, it is very important to be careful and accurate at all times.

Again (this is for Q3, however):

The way people should be benchmarking:
      1. Delete your q3config.cfg.
      2. Start q3 with the following command line:

      quake3 +seta r_mode 6 +seta r_fullscreen 1 +seta r_swapinterval 0 +vid_restart +s_initsound 0 +snd_restart +timedemo 1 +demo q3demo1

this sets the res to 1024, cuts the sound and set the r_swapinterval 0.

Hey, is really Unreal running faster with DX7?

      --------------------
I guess I kinda lost control, because in the middle of the play I ran up and lit the evil puppet villain on fire. No, I didn't. Just kidding. I just said that to illustrate one of the human emotions, which is freaking out. Another emotion is greed, as when someone kills someone for money, or something like that. Another emotion is generosity, as when you pay someone double what he paid for his stupid puppet.

The game I play most is:

        Timedemo 1
        Demomap demo1.dm2

        I think I'm almost finished....

I use benchmarking to tune my system, myself, there are so many things to install and change every time you reinstall windows that is the only way I know if I got everything.

I agree though, for people with super fast systems, why bother? If you get 1000fps, you don't need to get 1002fps.

PS. Anybody know a good problem to eliminate the caps lock, insert key and the rest of the useless and annoying crap on my too tiny keyboard? One that doesn't require visual basic runtimes or something.

Y'know, that could be a bit of a problem, KvH... as I understand it-- mind you, as a SS7 user, I wouldn't know-- "hamster sex" is one of the more essential steps in weaning a sufferer off benchmarking addiction...

I don't know if there's an alternative, but this destruction of innocent lives is unbearable....Perhaps I should start a support group or something when I get back.

Heres some news for you...the benchmark in q3 can miss some shit.

I get ~40fps @1024x768, don't ask about the goddamn settings, I'm not anal, those aren't the best #'s, I don't care. I was trying to figure out my online problem.

Q3 stutters online. Either that, or q3 handles lag VERY DIFFERENT from q2 and HL, and I just don't handle it well. Q3 does not stutter in an intense lan game with 16 crazy people shooting wildly though, but 3 people online, yes. Yes I have a 33.6 connection, but I've had it for ages, and q2 & hl work JUST DAMN FINE, I kick just enough ass bewteeen dropped packets to keep me happy. Q3 is unlayable :/

It DOES show as graphical stutter (frames drop, sound to) but I can't reproduce it offline.

Q3 benchmarks in general have about 0.000001 value to me now.

[Methinks its some damn obscure setting that I need to have in a autoexec for q3]
