  • Matrox / OpenGL / ProEngineer

ProEngineer is a 3D CAD softwer and needs OpenGL. Everybody can check on www.ptc.com, that Matrox cards are NOt certified for Proengineer, but Diamond V770 is!!. If a card has not appropriate OpenGL speed, then ProE regards the card as S3 compatible card!
Has anybody tried ProE with g200 or g400? Does it run in OpenGL? Because I am afraid, that the Matrox OpenGL drivers are not full.

    The G400 works pretty well on Pro/E Release 21 (2000i) under NT4.

Thanks for your quick reply. I am quite fool. Today I rechecked ProE with the G200, and this is working in OpenGL!!!!Under
Win98. PTC says, OpenGL is supported under WinNT. They are so not right!!

But g200 is very slow. Maybe the real-time shading and other graphic tricks are too hevy for it. A Riva 128 or Voodoo Rush is faster in Win32-gdi.
Do you feel, that g400 is so much faster?
My config will be Cel 450, ABIT BH6, Maxtor 5120 plus, 10,2GB, 64 MB, 17" Samsung, Win NT.
It is not the best, but not bad for a student.
I would prefer g400 than V770. Do you think I don't go wrong with Matrox?

        Its difficult to say.

The G400 performance is quite good, but it isn't as fast as a TNT or ATI Rage 128. A least not with the current drivers.

If you play games and/or want dual head then I would get the G400.

The main question does g400 has hardware aceleration for OpenGL? Tnt2 has.
The presence of OpenGL driver means NOTHING!!!

G200 has software emulation for OpenGL. It is very slow. I can say unusable. It is better, when the ProE emulates the OpenGL, and uses the card as simple S3. It is faster.
          Interesting but true.
