  • PIII 450 question

The day before matrox announced the turbogl my auction on ebay for my slw28 PII300 o/c to 504 ended. I had planned to sell it on ebay, take the money plus a little more and get a PIII450. I was pleasantly surprised when matrox announced the turbogl support for PIII. Now my only question is for PIII450 owners, do you have your's overclocked? And if yes, at what speed?

Look at my primary system in my .sig.

I did not tweak the core voltage on the PIII, either. Do note that I bought my PIII-450 two weeks after the chip went retail. Current cores may not be as overclock-friendly.

450@560 (FSB 124) and my MoBO is AOpen AX6BC without VCore tweaks. If anything newer cores will (theoreticly) OC better (realisticly about the same) as a 2nd week core.

Had 558 for three weks no trouble. Only added two fans to the case for general circulation as well.
Stay at 504 to be safe know though.

Asus P2BF - PIII 450 @ 506 by tweaking the bus speed to 112 Mhz (freq. multiplier does not appear to work).
Then I buyed a PIII 500 and tried the same trick. But with this one nothing seems to work. I'm stuck at 500.

Check the cache modules on the cpu. Generally if you've got NEC 4.0 or 3.6ns you're in luck (check out the bbs at www.lostcircuits.com). Following the tip from that site I tracked down at p3-450 SL35D (OEM) with the said NEC3.6ns cache. It runs 600 rock stable at 2.0V no burn-in time or anything. Will run Windows and 2d apps at 140MHz FSB (aka 630 at 2.0V) but freezes in 3D games.
I have a Vek32 with 2x 60x60x25 27.5cfm fans blowing on it, and thats it. With case closed and hours of Unreal gaming the temp raises to about 42C.

reason why I can't go higher i contribute to my MEM which is only "pc125" (see below).

                        GOod luck dude,

                        System spec:

said CPU, Abit BE6, 128MB 7.5ns cas2 AMK "pc125"(pc100 really) ram, WD Expert 9.1G 7200/66 HD, G400MAX at 172/230 (changes every day),Aureal superquad vortex2 sound, Toshiba sd-m 1212 6x dvd, memorex 2x2x24 cdrw, landmark ks299/300W case with 1 80mm fan for intake and outtake respectively, 19" AOC monitor

                          I had a P3 450 at 600 at 2.2 volts for about a month, then it died

i dont know what I did. do you think droping it did something?

Anyway, went out and bought a P3 600 about 2 weeks ago, and its not as fast as my old 450 at 600. Must be the PCI and AGP bus speeds.
