Survey of G200 Bugs

I am trying to take a survey of users here who have a g200 using the 5.25 drivers. I want to know if you have encountered any of the following bugs, or others that aren't listed here.

1) The icons move all over my desktop after playing a d3d game.

2) Quake3 test crashes when I alt-tab out of the game or I get an Instant Message.

3) Halflife does the same thing as Q3, but with the addition of not being able to get back into the game after you escape to the game menu to change some setting.

4) Texture corruption in Halflife. This leads to the "rainbow" effect and the whole scene being messed up. It is so bad in several places that you can't even see what is going on (zoption level in the wonderful Counter Strike mod).

I've not seen those problems, nor had any others with my G200. No problems with any drivers or any games.

I don't play Q3, though. I haven't loaded up HL for 6 months. I definitely don't have the icon prob, though.

Ok, thanks Paul. These are fairly new bugs. Only seemed to show up after I went to 5.x drivers.

Also stop posting the same complaints over and over. This is the exact same list of stuff you where whining about a couple days ago. You got all the responses you are likely to get in that thread.

And don't even come in here and try to dictate how we should act, or what threads we should or should not respond to. Until I see your name as moderator of this board, you have no control over what/where/how I post.

I started a new thread because it got junked up with useless flame posts by both me and other people. I am simply asking to see who else has these problems.

I am not trying to antagonize or "bait" anyone. I just want an honest answer from people who are experiencing the same difficulties.

I HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH MY G200, AND I WILL NOW BE ENTERING THE "BEST IN CLASS" WORLD OF THE G400 BECAUSE OF MATROX'S RECENT SERGE TOWARD BETTERING THEIR DRIVERS EVEN ON A CARD AS OLD AS THE G200, THANK you AND GOODNIGHT!!

Of the three problems you have I experience the bad textures in halflife but that is it. Stated at about 5.13. Okay after quitting and restarting though.

5.25
G200 8 sgram
PIII 450, GIGAbyte BX200, 128 PC100.
Although annoying I live with it as I like the G200, although I am getting a max soon.

Also one more problem that I have started having since 5.25 although I cannot see how it is related. I have a taxon Ergovision 750 monitor, and occaonsionally after switching on the screen seems to have moved accross a little and needs to be put back, takes a second but annoying, as I said though i can't see this being the G200.

i think the "squeaky clean" install is good advice. ive got 5.13 and am thinking of going to 5.25, does the uninstaller do a squeaky clean job by itself, or should anything else be done to insure complete removal of previous drivers??? or better yet, are newer drivers optimized for DX7 just around the corner?

Of those problems that you are having, the
only one that I am also having is the
Q3 crashes/hangs when I alt-tab back to
winblows. But then again, it used to do that
before I had my G200 a couple months ago, so I don't think it is a graphics card thing. Who knows.. Q3 is still beta, so it can do odd things.

Oh yeah, AMD K6-III 450 @496, Epox MVP3G-M, 256mb PC133, SBLive, other random stuff to take up empty slots.

I was able to reproduce this nasty bug on my machine. An instant message crashed me to the desktop. How am I supposed to chat when I'm playing Quake3? I really hope Matrox gets on this right away!!

I haven't suffered the problems MrBlue speaks of but have a couple that may be related.

I have had two G200's 8MB for a year now (two identical systems: Asus p2l97 mobo, PII 333, Cirruslogic modem, Awe64 sound, matshita CDx36, LS120, Hansol 700p) and have contientiously updated the drivers as they became available. I was happy with both systems (especially the graphics) for the most part. I don't do too many games, let alone 3d, but i do use AUTOCAD and dabble in some 3d rendering (not too taxing for the card).

problem 1: when i finally got Podracer for my kids, it would run on one system perfectly, but no visible graphics on the other. after a month of tinkering I finally gave in and re-installed all my software on that system, along with the 5.25 drivers. Racer works now but I get other problems:

Problem 2: screen artifacts show up randomly after periods of use, forcing frequent re-boots (i licked this by turning off bitmap caching, but screen redraws in some graphics programs have suffered.

Problem 3: AutoCAD crosshairs (what I stare at for 8 hours a day) have become jittery. This also occurs seemingly randomly and is MOST annoying (slows up my work considerably). I have asked matrox about this and they declared that it was a known bug (and recommended that I revert to older drivers until ?????? (release of 5.3)

can anyone help? (if need be I'll revert to 5.13 or even 4.33, but I'd rather not lose all my monitor customizations)

It sounds like one of the problems you may have is cooling. The appearance of artifacts after you have been playing a game for a while is frequently an indication that the video card is getting too hot. To verify this, try taking the cover off your case and directly the airstream from a small table fan at the video card and see if the problem clears up.
