  • 4MEG vs. 8MEG...any faster?

I currently own a Matrox Mystique (4MEG) and have seen on the Matrox website that there is a 4MEG upgrade card for $20CDN. My question is, is it worth the $20 to bring the card upto 8MEG? I run Win98SE in 1024x768 and it is slightly slow @ times...will the extra 4MEG really make a difference? I have a V2 for gaming, so the Mystique is purely for Win98.

I don't think I'd bother if I were you. Memory upgrades really only allow for higher color depths. I would recomend spending the money to get a good new 2D card. Besides which, the Mystique is an aging card. I know, I had one. I stopped using and bought a G200( course thats partly cause I fried my Mystique). Anyway, you can get a new G200 PCI or AGP for about 60$us. The performace vs. cost is really damn good, it's still one of the best 2D cards you can get( only the G400 beats it, at least that's my opinion). Or if you don't want to spend that much then there are lots of good newer cheap 2D cards that are better than the Mystique and they cost anywhere from 20-40$US.
    Hope that helps.
