    URL please?

According to planetunreal, only the Linux server is going to be released tonight (in North A timezones), with the demo being released tomorrow.

    Has it been released elsewhere?

I have already played the 3dfx only demo, because I still have my Voodoo2 as backup for games like HalfLife and now UT. I have to say that Unreal Tournament really kicks ass. It looks much better than Quake 3 test in my opinion, even without curves. And the gameplay is great (domination is my favorite). Weapons are much better balanced than those in Quake 3.

PS: I know Quake 3 test is not a demo, so I still await eagerly what id's response will be in their demo. But for now Unreal Tournament is much better. The only way I currently see Quake 3 winning is because of the hype and not because it is better.

Here here! I agree wholeheartedly with that analysis of UT demo vs Q3A test. I too can barely wait for the D3D version of the UT demo... wanna see what my Max can really do (well, that and the DTT2500!) :-)

Hope they clean up the player models a bit before Q3A hits the streets. And get rid of that damm weapon smoke and light effect in both games. Makes it hard to track people.

Some criticism on Unreal Tournament. Using the minigun, the light effect when shooting makes it almost impossible to see your enemy. Very irritating.

Another thing is the crosshair which is to small and has the most wrong color: dark blue. It's almost not visible, making it very hard to aim.

Two minor things in Unreal Tournament Demo that should be fixed before it ships.

              - You can change the crosshair color. Somewhere in the controls options, I believe. Mine's bright green right now.

              - You can turn off weapons flash. Unfortunately, this didn't do much for me.

I really hope they get rid of the weapons flash and motion blur in the game before it's released, or at least give us a console command to do the same.

                Hi Ice,

Are you saying that UT supports motion blur?

I think that's great can't wait to see it in action.

                Regards,
                Elie

                  Eh... support? Not sure...

Does it do it, yes. Remember, I'm on an SLI rig - what I think I'm seeing is visual tearing from the GLide drivers - it happens in 800x600 as well as 1024x768, and in 800x600, I had shut down the SLI feature.

It doesn't happening in software mode. It didn't happen with the Unified that I tried. I think it's a GLide "problem".

And it isn't cool when you're not able to aim because your field of view is blurred :-) If you whip your head around real fast, you'll see the blur.

Here's an URL w/ the demo:

                    ftp://ftp.ngi.it/files/Games/UT/Demo/UTDemo338.exe

I can't get on though... it's being hammered.

(While strafing to the left bunnymud says)

UT is most certainly more fun to play(as of now)than the Q3Test. But I love both of the bastards as if they were my own children.

I don't know...maybe I'm missing something, but I wasn't too impressed with UT. I played it on my Voodoo3 and I thought is was clunky and, well, ugly. I wasn't impressed with the graphics. Q3 is much faster and far more intense...for my two cents.

We played Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 Arena with about 10 people. And all agree that Unreal Tournament kicks ass (Schopt behoorlijk kont ;-) in comparison with Quake 3 Arena.
