Differences between G400 MAX and OEM

I know that there is the 360MHz RAMDAC vs the 300MHz RAMDAC and the 5ns vs 6ns cache...

...anything else?

since getting a MAX is as close to as impossible as one can get i have decided to go with an OEM one over buying another video card. Plus, they can be found for around $150 and are in stock!! Whoo-hoo!

Getting a Max in not impossible, it's dead easy. Just log onto Matrox's site or call their order number. They'll ship one out to you within 2 or 3 days.

1. Non-Max is not necessarily OEM. There are retail DualHead non-Max boards.

2. The diference between Max and non-Max is speed: Std uses 124 MHz Graphics engine clock and 168 MHz Memory Clock and has max. RAMDAC frequency set at 300 MHz. Max values are - respectively - 150, 200 and 360. Thus Max is up to 20% faster in some apps. I don't think you will ever use the RAMDAC at the speed above 250 MHz, so basically you pay for some 10% higher game performance.

3. You should really care about "number of heads". Most OEM boards are SingleHead (only one monitor output). DualHead boards have second output that can be used to connect the other monitor or TV set.
