MattTr, I have a retail boxed P III processor, and it has the as shipped fan and heat sink on it.

Does a fine job, but I do have extra fans, two intake and two exhaust, on my full tower for added circulation. At 72 F room temp, MB runs about 30C/86F and procesor 41C/105F. O/C added a couple of degrees to processor.

If you do add a different fan, the key is a good quality heat transfer compound. Some post's in Deja regarding high temps in P III's were due to OEM processors and poorly installed heat sinks.

        Thanks Scompracer.
What mother board are you using? I am using the Abit BH6. The temp reading I get is from using the built in temp monitor. Do you know if that monitors the CPU temp or the case temp?
I do have three fans in my case, not counting the ones on the Video cards or processors, so I should be o.k. as far as air circulation.
        Thanks again.

I have an ASUS P2B-LS. I am not familiar with your Abit, but the P2B series will do MB temp, while processor temp, even P III's, must be done with external P2T temp probe using ASUS Probe 2.02. The ASUS P3B-F MB will read the on die P III temp.
