  • Help Fizzy! 1982 3dmarks at 800x600?!

    Whoa now. G400Max, P3-500. What's with the 1982 3d marks?!?! (7588 CPU marks) ...

This was in 800x600x16 (The only thing that the non reg'd version supports.)

The card's got an IRQ. PCIList says AGP 2x is A-OK. No conflicts. What's up!?!? Heeelpme.

That looks very odd. Your CPU, rasterizer score and 2-8 Meg texture rendering speed look okay but the games and 16-32 Meg speeds suck. Your AGP setting in bios is that okay (but that wouldn't explain why the 16 meg speed is lousy)? Is the card/drivers installed okay?

You wanna swap that crappy card for my G200 (3200 3DMarks)???

    Cheers

Inexplicable, is what I say. Unless you have bus mastering off (you did not accidentally switch it off during troubleshooting, and forgot to switch it back?), of course (or processor cache disabled or something else really weird).

I would think that it would affect the other scores as well, though.

But well, I've been there, I did get 1900 with a G400/Athlon 500 combination when bus mastering was off. (Now I am somewhere in the 5200-5400 region, don't remember exactly)

Another thing that came to my mind is that do you really have AGP drivers running? You say that PCIlist says AGP 2x, but it shows that for the VGA card even though you do not have the driver installed (at least the version I have, which is pretty old, though).

You should also check that the CPU to AGP bridge (well, I do not have PCILIST in this machine I can not check the exact wording) shows AGP 2x enabled.

Yeah, PCIList says that the AGP to PCI bridge is AGP 2x. The drivers are PD 5.15 (because I have RR-G) but that shouldn't make *THAT* much of a difference.

PCIlist also says that the card is bus mastering okay. But, I MIGHT have turned off bus mastering while troubleshooting *but i'm pretty sure I turned it back on* (I'm at work right now, can't check at the moment.)

Processor cache isn't disabled or anything funky like that. Been having problems with my NIC speed too (uh-oh), and someone said I might have blown the PIC on my motherboard.. but... before I get that drastic I want to look at any other possibilities.

I switched the AGP aperture to 128 from 256
and that speed'd up the 8mb texture scores to a liveable rate but I still only got 2000 3dmarks. Whoopty-shit.

And yeah, bus mastering being off should effect everything...

I dunno. I'm almost to the point where I'm gonna get rid of this P2B and put in a P3B-F, but I can't quite do that yet...

Anyone have any other ideas? :\

You may have gone the wrong way with the AGP aperture size - I get crappy rates (on a G200 SD 16MB) if it is to big or too small, with the 16 and 32MB rendering speed effected in either case (ie, I get nearly identical 16 and 32 MB rendering rates with it set to 256 as I do with it set to 32). Of course, that should not have that dramatic an impact on the game scences (it doesn't on mine), which is what the 3DMark score is based on. And no, there isn't that great a difference between the 5.15 and 5.25 drivers. So, I guess I'm saying that I am of no use whatsoever to you, just thought I'd point out the aperture. Sorry.

So at this point the only thing I can try is to smear cow's blood over my body, put mud and feathers in my hair, and waddle around making chicken noises amidst a circle of birch sticks?

                PurpleHaze,
Don't get rid of that P2B unless you have other system probs as well. I've got the same mobo as you (P2B v1.02 (?), bios v1010) and don't have the hassles you've got (okay I've got a only G200 but running v5.25 too). It's a good board and should do till you wanna upgrade to a nice dual Athlon setup

Did you not have a G200 before upgrading? If you've still got it, what happens if you drop that back in and benchmark that?

No other suggestions from the regulars? Failing that take it all out and reinstall OS and drivers...

                Cheers

ps. Don't get any of that mud in your rig...

What's wrong with you guys?! who cares about that shitty 3dmark thingie. Have you tried other games? I belive you also had problems with final reality or was that holly?

Anyway, what's your scores in other games? expendable? I presume those are good, since you don't mention it, and then it probably is something buggy with 3dmark.

Lastly, have you tried other drivers? and pherhaps the RRG is slartibartifasting with the 3dmark 3d-game enging. errrr.

not so intelligent suggestions, I just wanted to post something to Ami's thread

Now, that cow blood and chicken stuff might work. After all, it's windows 98 were talki'n about, right?

                  Oh one more thing, I've got a P2B-DS and the Max, 2x P3 450@504, bios rev 1011 and win98se:

                  3DMark Result : 4 969 3DMarks
                  CPU 3D Speed : 7 717 CPU 3DMarks

Ya 5.25 drivers. and the beta icd

oh and another one more thing; you might wanto reinstall.

I think I'm gonna go be quiet and play some little games now. Yeah. The way they're meant to be played on a G400Max.

... Maybe this is why I haven't been quite as impressed as I should have been with this card.

                    <blush, bang head>

I think I'm working too many long hours.

Thanks anyways guys.:\ Hopefully next time this won't be like crying wolf.

I somtimes get the feeling that I'm the only one that EVER makes them.., Like the time I ripped apart a mchine, switched MOBO's and power supplys crossed wires etc. and the whole problem was the 120v switch on the power supply... after 4 hours...

I hope your OK now P.HAZE

"It's um, working now! I had to uh, reflagrate the bobotron regulator!"
