  • Red Corrupted Dos Screen

    Hiya,

A while ago me and my friend both got G400s (16MB) and when we installed it we both got red-corrupted dos screens on start-up .... after the first boot his went away but mine remained ... Unfortunately now I need to work in dos and it is irritating me :< .. anyone seen this before ? ... Know a solution ?

BTW My current drivers are new beta ones .. but the same thing has been happening ever since the install of drivers from cd so ???

Um. I don't want to be the harbinger of bad news but this is a VeryBadThing(TM). You BOTH had it happen?! I've seen this happen before (brownish text on red? or yellow on red?) if the DAC gets fried.

You're not overclocking are you? If so, don't tell them, and return it. =c_c=

      doh ...

Just to clarify specifics before I jump up and down :/. The screen is white writing on red ... also some characters are mangled .. like space becomes ' and - becomes m etc.</P>

It seems to only happen after the screen scrolls (ie it is fine until you hit enter at bottom of screen in which case it dies ... The curious thing is my friend's corrupt screen went away ?

      Still prognosis negative ? 8-<

      BTW the card isn't overclocked

well... is the *system* overclocked? (Running 41mhz PCI bus or something?) ... also, do you have an ATA-66 controller in there? (I know, sounds strange to ask... but may be related.)

Running 41mhz PCI bus or something?
I'd say AGP speed is more relevant here..
I think the best thing for you to do it take all the peripherals out and run the system just with graohics adapter. By doing that you can make sure the problem is only in G400. Also you might want to check if your mobo BIOS as well as G400 BIOS are up to date.
And if the system is oc'd, return it to normal for testing.

I keep on getting stuck in the past.

Pretty soon I'm gonna be talking about VESA Local or something.

I really, really, really need more sleep :|

Ami, as soon as you start ranting about OC'ing the bus speed of the ISA-slots, we'll have those gentlemen in white coats run over to you

What are you trying to do? Running a dual 486 with WIN NT or something like that?

                  Thank you.
