  • Mil G200 - resource conflict

    Abit BH6 - 300A - Matrox Mill. G200/8Megs SDram.

System has been running perfect for over a year with no prompts from Windows. The G200 has been running perfect. However, there is a resource conflict in the Control Panel/System for the Matrox G200. Under RESOURCES, it shows two memory range conflicts,

"Memory Range xxxx - xxxx used by Intel 82443BX Pentium(r)II Processor to AGP Controller"

This is stated twice with different xxx ranges.

In addition, WCPUID shows the AGP as Disable. Has anyone ran into this before.

Any attempt to change the memory ranges results in the card not working properly. (I restore registry, etc with ERD.EXE and everything is back to normal.)

Also, what version would you recommend as the best update for the bios and driver. There always seems to be two different ones available.

    Thanks all.

Which Windows version have you got running???

Does the G200 have any problems?? If not, keep it that way... if it ain't broke, don't fix it

You're not using Windows 98, or you're using Win95 OSR2 without properly setting up AGP supports. Win95 OSR2 need USBSUPP patch to enable AGP. I would strongly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version of Win98.

If your AGP is disable, you're using your G200 as a fast 66MHz PCI card. You'll be surprised that most AGP cards working in PCI mode will mostly be freed from stability issues, But is it that you want??? Paying for an AGP card, while using it as PCI card?? Think again. In fact, you shouldb't be worried too much as Intel 440BX has the best AGP implementation in the industry.

      Jorden:

It is a very bad advice, when you say that "if it ain't broken, don't fix it." Then he won't be able to get the most out of what he has paid. Are you going to buy an ATA66 harddisk, and use it in PIO Mode 0??? Don't be surprise that I have actually seen PC dealers selling system with BIOS setup password protected and they forced a fast DMA mode 2 capable harddisk to work in PIO mode 0. No doubt this will save them a lot of problems, but is such practice right?? Well, they can even sell some factory rejected harddisk to their customers...

        Hi Kjliew.

Would have answered sooner but was out of town for a few days.

I'm running WIN95, OSR2. USBSUPP was installed a year ago. I may not have AGP turned on due to sequence of installation of USBSUPP and Matrox driver. I definitely am of the opinion that equipment should work at it's rated design and would like to get this problem resolved.

The USB entry on the system shows:

Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller

There are no conflicts on this.

I prefer to run Win95 rather than Win98. It's smaller and faster. Win98 doesn't offer any advantage over Win95 that I can see. I've noticed a lot of systems being changed back to Win95 rather than put up with Win98 and Microsoft and IE.

The Processor to AGP controller is loaded. (See my first post.)

I am a loss to explain the two memory conflicts and more at a loss to explain why they cannot be changed in the resourses tab. I probably just haven't hit on the right memory configuration but do not know for sure.

          Hi Giles,

The memory range conflict is normal under W95B, don't worry, it doesn't cause any problems.
