One more note to add. I reset the opengl extensions to on while in the game (enter ok with opengl extension off). No lockup! Exit game, reboot, re-test no lockup!
I give up for today and see what happens tomorrow.

I seem to have less lockups with my g400/sblive combo with the 5.20 WHQL certified drivers, but I'll need to do further testing. But I think it's worth a go.

I had similar problems and eventually purchased the Liveware 2 CD. It seems that the web upgrade from 1 to 2 is not perfect from similar reports on the SB forum.

I had same problems with my G400, and SB Live
          using a Chaintech MB,

Forced the IRQ's using the bios, and re installed Win98.

had to disable SB16 Emulation and it more stable but time will tell.

Any motherboards out there that are friendly
          with this combo of cards??

          Update.

Still Locking up, Finally Dl liveware 2.0 and 2.1....Fingers crossed.

            DaveP,

At last! Someone else using a Chaintech MB and having G400 problems!

I was recently forced to return my Hauppauge WinTV card, as I was unable to get it working on my system, which includes the G400 (32MB DH) and the SBLive! Value cards on a Chaintech 6BTM board. Any attempt to even query the device settings for the WinTV card in the Win98 Device Manager, never mind actually run the WinTV application(!), resulted in a system hang. I was having no problems with the G400 + SBLive! combination, so I assumed this was a Hauppauge problem (hence I returned the card). However, I subsequently saw posts from other G400 users who were having problems with either the G400's busmastering support (turn it off to get the Hauppauge card working!) or the G400's AGP 2x support (some games seem to only work with G400 AGP 1x, and similarly with some people's SBLive! cards). I have also seen a post from "Haig", who says that Matrox have tested the Hauppauge card with the G400, but there's still the question of motherboard compatibility (they can't test every motherboard, obviously)...

And yes, I have the latest G400 & SBLive! drivers, latest motherboard BIOS, latest G400 BIOS, etc., etc...

Of course, Hauppauge tech support blame the G400, Matrox blame the motherboard, my motherboard supplier say it's the Hauppauge card, and we're back to the beginning again...

I did consider buying the Hauppauge TV card again and trying the G400 registry hacks, turning G400 busmastering off, etc., etc., but why should I? I've bought a top of the range video card, so I should expect to be able to use its capabilities. Anyway, life's too short to spend time on this sort of thing (I already wasted the best part of a week trying to get this working)...
            Alan

I am using the following combination with no problems.
P3B-F Asus motherboard with PIII 600 mhz BIOS 1003A1
SB Live with digital I/O card Liveware 2.1
Matrox G400 Max with G series RR card Pd 5.15
                AHA 2940 SCSI Controller Card

I have the SB Live in PCI Slot No. 2 to ensure that no other cards are sharing its IRQ. It does share IRQ with PCI sharing.

Thanks a whole bunch to Sprocket. I was experiencing lock-ups in HL/TFC. My SB Live was forcing the G400 to IRQ5. Manually moved SB Live IRQ per Sprocket's instruction and now all is well. Much appreciation.
