overclocking

hey all,
i have a G400 dual head and downloaded the matrox overclocking/tweak utility. any ideas on what speed is safe to overclock to? (i.e. percentagewise, like 120% etc). I am going to buy a fan for the card anyway but don't want to fry it. thanks for the info.

my system:
Dual celeron 525 w 128 megs ram
Quantum fireball hard drive

I wouldn't go over 115% as G400s are already pretty optimised.

why are people using the matrox overclock? MGA Tweak is way better.

My G400 32mb dh scores 34% better in quake2 at 160/200 over the default 126/168

I'm not sure I understand you statement there would probably be no benefit at all to trying to overclock a MAX. I'm overclocking mine at 110% with not a single problem and measureable increase in performance.

Just got my G400 dh today and the card cooler.

I have my card overclocked at 125% using the matrox utility or a 157/210 reading on the tweak.

works great and what great visual quality

I added a fan on top of the heatsink and my Vanilla runs at 125% without any probs ...

Needless to say that the gain is not only measureable, but also subjectively noticeable.

What is the maximum SAFE OC you can you can do to a G400 32Dh without a fan
Where can you download the MGA tweak utility is why is it better than the matrox util ?

MGA Tweak is more for the avid tweaker. It allows you to play with the dividers and memory settings. I love it

I've got my non max 32mb card set to 120% with non problems. Added a fan to see if it'll go higher but no go... It must be the memory chips that are hot with no cooling....

I'm using a PIII 450 overclocked to 504 MHz (4.5 X 112 FSB) on my faithful (and old!) Asus P2B motherboard. What's funny is that the memory I'm using to acheive this is PC-66. Rock stable.
