19" or 21" for the G400

I currently have a Gateway Vivitron 17" monitor (sony trinitron tube and the monitor I think is made by MAG) and want to upgrade it. The price difference is quite big between 19" and 21"... I am considering the iiyama 19" monitor ad wanted to know if I should even bother checking 21inchers at all. I have a vanilla G400.

basically I need to choose between a high quality 19" and a medium quality 21".

If you have a strong back, go for a 21". I don't so I opted for twin 19"ers.

If I were me (and I am), I'd get twin 19" apeture-grill monitors again. I prefer apeture-grills to flat-squares. The Naturally Flat apeture-grill 900u's from Mitsubishi that I have are especially nice (too bad the second head on the G400 MAX is a little wimpy).

P.S. I had a Gateway Vivitron 1776 prior to my 19" monitors - the Gateway looked like crap once I got the 19"ers. I actually gave the monitor away, it was so bad.

When I made a decision to choose Sony GDM-400PS or Illyama(Diamondtron FD), I chose 400PS.

The reason is only that the colors of 400PS's Trinitron is more burning than Mitsubishi Diamondtron FD of Illyama...

In fact, I have heard that the Trinitron tubes which Sony uses are different from those he sells to other vendors... So as Mitsubishi's Diamondtron...

G400 + 400PS at 1280x1024 still have a good display of sharp image.

A little bit blur at 1440x1080 or 1600x1200. But it is still acceptable. The only problem is that the font is too small and my eyes can't afford it. Thus, to use these resolution, 21" monitor is better choice.

I have the PS790's (19" Viewsonic). They are cool cuz they got the short necks and can fit on your desk. I haven't experienced any of the drawbacks normally associated with the shortnecks either. Picked them up for $420 ea. Pretty good deal. Maybe not as nice as the Sony, but darn close - and much cheaper!
I use dual P810's (21" Viewsonic) w/ dual g200's and NT at work. I am way happy with those too.

If you have the G400 DH or MAX, try two 19inch MAG 800v's. Just got two from Walmart for $350 each. PC magazine gives it Editor's Choice award. It has nice color and clarity and can do 1600X1200 max. They outright beat the 21inch Viewsonic P815 I use at the office. Think about it: two 19inch's cost less than one 21inch monitor and you get more display area.

I would highly suggest that which ever way you go, do your best to find a monitor that has BNC inputs for Red, Green, Blue, Horizontal Refresh, and Vetical Refresh. I recently purchased the cadillac of monitors (IMHO), the Sony 21" GDM-F500. For a month I had it hooked up through the D-SUB. I finally got around to picking up a very high quality ($60.00) BNC cable. Holy SHIT Batman!!! I honestly could not believe the difference that cable made. Contrast and clarity were improved significantly.

I have a Iiyama A901HT, and its *** great!
The picture and the colours are the best ive EVER seen, and its got the same tube as the M900u, so its completely flat (Diamondtron NF). I also think the design is a lot prettier than the Mitsubishi.
I wouldnt buy two for the dualhead though, simply because the picture quality of the second head isnt as good as the first (and lower refresh rates) and you wouldn't be using that second $600 monitor all the time.

I too have the Mitsubishi diamond Pro 900u, but I have had some bad luck with it... The first I got was very blurry at 1028@75Hz and up. Unusable. I bought it directly from an importer, and he was nice to let me change it. The other one, was sharp as an egg all the way up to 1600x70Hz. Except for the right narrow side, so the scrollbars tend to get a little foggy. Another thing with this one is that at the top the image tend to be alittle narrowed and the geometry isn't totally |-|, but more like /-|. I can see this when I move the grey square windows left to right in lightwave. But I still sit here with it, so I guess I've got used to it..

When it comes to graphics and games, it's explendid. AG+G400 is the best.

I have a Adi 6p, my brother has a Viewsonic P813. ~$400 for former, ~$850 for latter (I think)

They're both nice on the max...and make my 3 year old MAG 710v2 look like shit

The price difference is a fair bit for 21s from 19s...for some, you could have two comparable/equal 19s. I dunno, lugging a 80+ lb monitor to a friends house or lan party ain't easy. Of course my 55 lber isn't either...

I like having more than one computer instead, so if you have 2 or 3, go for 2x19 and a monitor switch, and set the dualhead one to switch between computer #2 #3 #4 etc etc I bought a $30 4 port, and it doesn't seem to degrade at 1280x1024@75.

I got a 22" Iiyama VisionMaster Pro510 (A201), which is the 22" version of their natural flat 19", and it's very nice... I'm glad I got it... Only problem is occasional pixel jitter which the manual says can happen when there is magnetic interference. (about 3' away I have a 22-25" ancient JCPenney TV, which could be the cause).

I use a not-so-flat (in spite of the model description) Nokia 19" at work, but I'm glad I have a 22" monitor at home to watch DVD movies and to play games... At Virtual World, the price was $999.

I got to recomend either the 19" Sony or the Mitsubishi.... don't bother with anything else and make sure you go with BNC connector.

Only bother going up to 21" if you can afford the same models at the bigger size.

I use a 20" Dell\Sony D2026T-HS .26 Trinitron and a 19" Gateway\Sony VX900T .25 Trinitron. Both are 16x12 max res. Vid card is a G400-dual head. I swear by AG tubes. Can't beat the colors and text is razor sharp. Best part is that I got them as refurbs (not a mark on either) for a TOTAL cost of $707.00US for the two of them.
