Ha-ha. And you think I'd install the drivers and expect them to work right off the bat? I think not. :-)

Seriously, my main machine's about due for a reinstall of Win98SE - OS rot brought on by continual hardware swapout (The vid cards, the SB Live!, the SB32, the V2's, etc...), so I'm not expecting much. Just finished backing up my C: drive (CDRW is a great thing) and offloaded my LaserJet to the secondary system so I can remove the final ISA card in my Primary system.

Thanks for the tips about the V2's working alongside the G400's TurboGL MCD. Exactly what is the MCD's filename? Surely it ISN'T opengl32.dll?

P.S. If the TurboGL means decreased UT performance, the V2's are going to win out over the TurboGL. :-)

      Of course it's opengl32.dll.
That's what the games all look for.
That's why the 3dfx one is called that.
That's why the old G200 wrapper was called that.

Yeah, guess I deserve that for not finishing my thought.

OpenGL32.dll DID NOT exist in more than 5 places on my system, and all 5 were not my game directories.

I realized I did not run the Setup.exe program, I had just installed the drivers via Windows (the "PCI VGA card detected" stuff), so I ran the setup.exe file that came with the driver set.

In case anyone cares, here's how to re-run the TurboGL install routine (just in case you clicked Cancel when it did the scan):

        C:\WIN98SE\SYSTEM\PDGLUTIL.EXE /RefreshAll

That's what the Setup proggie puts in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnce key folder in the registry.

That installed it everywhere on my system. HL has an OpenGL mapping file, so I'll probably play around with futzing with it to see if I can get the two of them coexisting. The rest, I'll just nuke the TurboGL where necessary. :-)

5.30 has issues with MPEG and AVI files again - I cannot drag an MPEG or AVI to the SECOND head, whereas I could with 5.25. Not sure what is broken yet. Kruzin, got any ideas? The SAME thing happened when I tried out those Dell drivers...

Ok, off to test this thing out.

          Figured out the MPEG/AVI thing...

The color depth on both heads has to be the same. I had the primary at 16bit, and the secondary at 32bit. Set them both to 32bit and everything's fine now.

O.K. answer this: If you have a CPU that is'nt supported, can you still use 5.30 and get the problem fixes without losing speed over 5.25?

Ditto on the above...and why aren't K6-2/3 supported? The 'sse' optimizations in the K7 are 3dnow...I'm celeron freak, but still, a point to be made about that.

The 'see blood thru walls' in HL is really weird...can I use 5.30 to fix that or what?! /ugh

Goddamn half speed L2...where are those damn 256k coppermines?! I *would* fork over the cash for a 0.18 100mhz FSB one of those. And of course pump it to 133

                5.30 - PIII or K7 = no TurboGL
                But it works fine

V2 can coexist with G400, just takes some work. :-)

For HL, rename whatever DLL causes DDHelp to die when you exit the game - for me it's MW3D32V2.DLL, in the Windows\system dir. Move the OpenGL32.DLL file that Matrox sticks in the Half-Life dir into the gldrv directory, then edit the txt file there to reflect the appropriate filename and description.

Reverse this process to get your V2's back in working order. :-)

Gonna try UT now... Yeah, I know this is a lost cause, but why not at least try? :-)

I stuck the OpenGL32.dll file into the UTDemo\system dir...

UT doesn't like the TurboGL :-)

On a more positive note, UT seems to run considerably faster with D3D and high world detail... Hmm...

                      Zypher,
The 3DNow! instruction set is a much-extended version of those found on the K6's.

                      ------------------
                      K6-2/350@400, 503+ rev 1.2a, 128MB PC100 RAM, Millenium G200, RH6.1 w/ 2.2.12-20, Win98, and too many classes

Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.
