  • 5.30 OGL saga..

I'll have to install Lava and try it out.

Unreal I haven't tried yet, but I find Unreal is better in D3D mode - The Unreal crew didn't do a good job on their OpenGL implementation, and they know full well they didn't (they've basically dropped supporting it from UT).

The TurboGL is great for HL. Works like a charm. 1024x768 is gorgeous. 1152x864 likewise, but not quite as fast as the V2 rig I have (then again, it can't do 1152x864).

It's important to keep in mind that Unreal is a Glide-based game. Apparently, and I've heard this over and over again, the D3D implementation is vastly improved while OpenGL performance isn't nearly as good.

The thing I noticed with Unreal in d3D mode is that the background is very blocky. This wasn't the case with earlier drivers. Lovely tearing with opengl though time to enable vsync.

        5.30 OGL saga..

        5.30 OGL saga

Problems again?...is that new with MATROX ?...ofcourse not ...the same old school..TURBOGL ,mcd ,ICD ,or however they call it..they doesent work like they sould & this is 4th driver revision.

What bother me is that always somting doesent work or makes lockups or crashes like TURBOGL with UNREAL, SB.LAVA ! player, VOODOOLIGHTS screan saver or other.

        So the saga begins :

After installing 5.30 I get my PC crashed ewery time I exit LAVA! player, with some message like ILLIGAL OPERATIONS & corruptions in desktop like white icons, empty stratmenu & ofcorse I have to reboot , the same way with VOODOOLIGHTS 1.2.3 SCREAN SAVER in D3D works OK but when select OGL this hapend when I exit the SS :

VOODOOLIGHTS caused an invalid page fault in module G400ICD.dll at 018f:691a77ff

So I replaced the 5.30 ICD with beta icd 5.13.021 & things goes much better NO CRASHES with LAVA & VOODOOLIGHTS only that VOODOOLIGHTS want close complitly after exit, I have to close it with CTRL+ALT+DEL because they stay there from some reason,I will try ICD from 5.20 later.

I didnt test any Q games because I dont play it ,but UNREAL will be tested soon as fast I get my CD back..ah yes before format c: I tryed UNREAL & guess whth... BLACKNES,CRASH..BOOOOOMMMMM ded end , have to restart, ofcourse with TURBOGL

So far I tested HOMEWORLD in D3D & OGL with 5.30 & it works PERFECT in D3d but OGL not so good, coruptions in SENSOR screen & slower performance in game when near asteroid field, D3D works wery wery good in 1024x768x32 , 32megs txtures, all highest settings.

3Dmark99 MAX counts a performance incrase & that is good from 4444 to 4630 not OC & with Vsync ON

My opinion about 5.30... D3D works great , OGL icd sucks & TRBOGL sucks even more, replaceing ICD with other one could make things better, the same problems with ICD & LAVA/VOODOOLIGHTS I had with next PDesks: 5.21,5.25 & 5.30

Maybe HAIG could say waht is in common with these ICD-s & why they crash with LAVA ,VoodooLights & other OGL SS

5.13,5.20 works OK with LAVA but there is the strange problem when exiting VOODOOLIGHTS, it stays in background so I must close it with CTRL+ALT+DEL

I realy appreciate that MATROX relised 5.30 like tey say it would & that they make progress with drivers, but OGL must be better then this .
