• 5.13w/DX6 -> 5.30w/DX7

Ok I'll bite
I will try to go from 5.13 with DX6 to 5.30 with DX7 tomorrow
What I want to know is if anyone has any advice for the order of events.

I'm thinking:
uninstall 5.13 (is it neccessary)
reboot to VGA
install DX7
reboot
install 5.30 useing setup.exe
reboot
test the hell out of system
anoy those with problem and/or no PIII or K7
with posts on how well it works

Any comments or constructive advice?

GNight and Thanks,
Mark F.

First upgrade to DX7 (easy)

reboot

Go to VGA

Reboot, do not install drivers

Delete all MGA*.* files

Delete all Matrox*.* files and directories

Delete all G400*.* files

Delete registry entries as in the uninstall file on Matrox web site

reboot

run uninstall program from Matrox web site

Close all running programs in Close Program dialog box except for "Explorer" and "systray"

Install 5.30 using setup.exe
reboot

Yes, uninstalling 5.13 is necessary.

This is the procedure that works for me everytime.

Uninstalling doesn't seem to be necessary moving from 5.25 to 5.30. Did it on my brother's machine (my old machine) a couple days ago. He's had no problems so far.

I appreciate the responces I have gotten but there has been some conflicting info. Especialy about the need to uninstall 5.13 drivers before moveing to 5.30.
So if any "insiders" or BBz would give me their input I would be real greatful.

I'd say that uninstalling completely never hurts.

Your following order of events is correct:
uninstall 5.13 (is it neccessary)
reboot to VGA
install DX7
reboot
install 5.30 useing setup.exe
reboot

You should uninstall your previous drivers. But to uninstall correctly, all you usually have to do is use the follow tool:
http://www.murc.ws/Driver/Win9x/PD5/un_513.zip
Works great for uninstalling Matrox PowerDesk drivers. Once you run it, it removes your MAtrox drivers completely. Reboot. You will be prompted to install video drivers. Install the default Super VGA. Then go on with the rest of your steps and your set.

Have fun,
