  • "insider" responce wanted

I appreciate the responces I have gotten but there has been some conflicting info. Especialy about the need to uninstall 5.13 drivers before moveing to 5.30.
So if any "insiders" or BBz would give me their input I would be real greatful http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/Forum5/HTML/005169.html

    No conspiacy theories I promise

    Thanks,
    Mark F.

Uninstalling shouldn't be THAT difficult! ;-)

Install those 5.13 drivers first...with Matrox unistaller

It's always a good idea to uninstall old drivers before reinstalling new ones. The reason you're getting conflicting information is because so many people have successfully installed the recent updates over previously installed drivers.

If you haven't already done so, use the uninstaller, install Windows' Standard VGA drivers as prompted, reboot, and run the setup program for PD 5.30.

The Matrox web site says you should uninstall the old drivers first. As paulcs said, it's never a bad idea to do so.

However...I know where you're coming from. It's a large hassle to have to set up all your schemes, refresh rates, etc. every time a driver update comes out. Being one of the "BBz" it would be a real hassle, having to set all that stuff up almost weekly. So I don't. I did a full un-install when 5.1x went to 5.2x. Since then, I have had no less than 12 different beta builds, and not un-installed since 5.20.

So, although Matrox would probably disagree with me, I would suggest trying to install over the old drivers (and you will be told there are old drivers, and given the option to nuke all your customizations), and trying it. If you have any problems or issues whatsoever, the first thing you should do is a full uninstall/reinstall. If no problems arise, you're good to go...

Being another one of the 'BBz' myself I have to agree with Kruzin. Try it, if it works then great, if not then try it doing the full uninstall/reinstall.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to any particular order of installing 5.30 and DX7?
I was thinking uninstall first so DX install could only mess with VGA drivers. then install 5.30 so it can set drivers "right" again. Or is it better to install DX7 on top of 5.30.
DX7 is not really important right now, but I just want to see what all the hub-bub about UT is all about.
At this rate by the time I get around to the upgrade the DX7 optimised PD might be out. Hope not. Well then again, might not be so bad!

yep, i agree with everyone here.. better be safe than sorry... uninstall those previous drivers and than go directly with the latest ones.... As for DirectX, i find it better to install it prior to the drivers...
