  • Why so darn slow

Ok, when i first got my g400 max 3 er 4 weeks ago, i was very pleased with the results. I have been reading this forum for almost as long as i have had the card, and only just started to realize how slow mine was in comparison to everyone elses on slower machines. The specs are below:

    Machine:
    P3-500@500
    256mb pc100 mem
g400max with plenty of breathing room, running at agp2x
    ~4800 3dmarks

if anyone could give me any tips on why my comp is so slow. Even the bechmark on the front page, for a p3500 with 128mg is around 5050.

You are running slow for a Max. I get about 4970 (give or take 20 points) with a PIII 500 and a G400 vanilla. (I assume your settings are at 800x600/16-bit.)

Since July, I figured out all sorts of ways of slowing down my board. First, I screwed it up using Powerstrip (we think). Then, I had some sort of conflict with my soundcard drivers.

Unless you managed to get a defective Max, or you messed up your board's BIOS parameters with Powerstrip, you're probably having a conflict of some sort.

You might try updating the drivers on some of your peripherals, and if worse comes to worse, reinstall Windows 98. It's painful, but it fixes a lot of problems and goes a long way in determining if you're having a hardware or software problem.

Before you do anything drastic, I think you should post your system specs, your OS, and the version of Direct X you're using, and let the rest of the forum take a crack at your problem.

      Good luck.

          Vsync disabled?

(This problem could be simpler than I previously thought.)
