  • 5.30 .....I should be happy, but????

I wouldn't expect to see very much increase in performance from AGP x1 to AGP x2 unless you using more memory that the video card has on-board. You got a G400 32Mb there? Guess what, it isn't going to happen with many games or apps at the moment.

The reason 3DMark doesn't change is because the 3D score is calculated on the race and first person games only. You'll get a higher Final Reality score because it takes into account bus transfer rates (which should be higher at x2) when it calculates the score.

If your card is running at AGP 2x and you don't have any problems, what's your bother? Did you expect to see a 50% performance increase because some new drivers where released - this is the "real world" afterall.

My concern is "is this as good as it gets?"......the benefits of 5.30 are aimed squarely at Pentium and amd supporters, I am unfortunate enough not to be able to afford a Pentium III or amd (Athlon) based system. I have stayed with Matrox for the improvements that have been heralded with new driver issues, well the improvements for Celeron owners are just to little.....I want speed and good looks, to much to ask??.........

5.30 .....I should be happy, but????

Well well well........I have been unable to get agpx2 after 2 weeks of tweaking this that and the other. loaded 5.30 drivers and what do you know.....agp x "2"..........yippeeee. Did cartwheels down the corridor, grabbed the wife "I got it I got it...........x2"...........she says "thats great baby...?????"......
Wow i thought as simple as that. Benchmarking time!!!
Well what Matrox giveth Matrox taketh away!!!
Quake3 lost 2fps at highest quality and slighly less at noraml, at higher res's exactly the same........great, just bloody great!!!
      3Dmark99Max......SAME!!!
Final reality.......blew the lid off with a new record 5.60!!.
      Gp500 racing demo......wont play, locks at loading......hmmmm??
So as Pauline Hansen (to all Aussies out there)......"please explain??"......
Please give me a good reason to keep this card!!......I have my Celery 366 running at 606Mhz and hae received no "real world" benefits from the latest drivers or know achieving agpx2!!!!!!!
GeForce is starting to look bloody appetising....Im running out of patience with this card, and of course I cant take advantage of the Turbo Gl driver with the Celery......as I said "what Matrox giveth................."

      F#$k.....

No it isn't. Matrox have done what the said they would do up to yet and improved drivers are still in the pipeline, you'll just have to wait.

the benefits of 5.30 are aimed squarely at Pentium and amd supporters

Apart from a few bug fixes that affect everyone.

As for good looks and speed, haven't you got that now? I've just stopped playing Re-Volt set at 1024*768 with all the eye-candy on. It runs at 40-70fps and it looks spanking gorgeous.

          Hey FP,

look at the 32MB Texture Rendering Tests and tell me you didn't have a gain in there ...

Seriously, why in the world should a change in AGP transfer mode affect any tests when no AGP transfer is used ???

How fast do I want my card to run.....I'll tell ya'........Ive just spent almost $500.00 Australian dollars on my new first ever Matrox card......My system, other than the Video card is absolutely humming, this is no co-incidence or good luck story. Im overclocking and super-cooling on a very serious and commited level, the Matrox card was to offer me the "potential" speed with the undeniable "finish" and "polish" that Matrox is reknowned for. It hasnt!!!
What do I play....guess!!.......yes Quake in every form, Unreal and now Unreal tournament and good god I used to play Tribes, but well, the less said about Tribes and Matrox the better.
I seemingly erred in judgement. Of course I should have got a TNT2 in some form, but I thought I'd risk the Matrox and put in the hard yards waiting for driver improvements....no need to go into that again. Well, enough is enough. I fired up the puter after coming home from watching "The sixth sense" and what do you know......Rally Championship 2000 is locking up as is GP500 as is Unreal......forced agpx1 in the registry and shabam......no problems......enough case of Taking with one hand......bla bla........
You can blame overclocking for these woes, and I wouldnt blame you...however, it isnt. Returning the Celeron to 366 from 605, same problems.
I have never ever had so many problems so often with so little support (you think I only whinge here, I have unreturned emails all over Matrox's sites....arrgghhhh)....please tell me again.....why I still have this card?
When will Matrox sort out this rubbish with the agp, never?
What do I want in a card, easy.....QUake3 and Unreal Tournament with High Quality modes and ful detail and 45-50+ fps, nothing less!!
I havent got that now and I seriously doubt Matrox will deliver its "pot of gold" drivers, not at least before the Voodoo10 or the Nvidia 8 bla bla is released.....its just plum worn me out.
Isnt gaming fun, it used to be.....now where are my Twin voodoo2's and celeron 300a at 464?????..........
