The most recent powerstrip version doesn´t seem to have that bios corruption problems. I´ve used 2.51.06 and 2.51.07 and everything is fine. (But I did a bios backup disk first thing before even think of overclocking it).

Are new MAXes clocked lower?

[Sigh...] I know some of you have had problems with the PowerStrip. I also know there are thousands of people who use the program on a daily basis without any problems whatsoever. But this is not *about* the PowerStrip.
I got this new Max card - it works very well, without any problems at all. Except for a single abortive attempt to raise the clock speed to 105% using the Matrox Tweak Utility (not PowerStrip), the card has not been overclocked, and anyways, after that the BIOS was both recovered, and then updated. As far as I'm concerned, it continues to work very well at 196MHz, and I have no interest whatsoever in overclocking it.
I simply find it curious that the default clock on this card is 196MHz. It has nothing to do with the registry or drivers: it is 196MHz under Win9x, NT4 and W2K. And I was simply asking if anyone else with a brand new Max had seen the same thing...

Ashley,
I just received a brand new Max. Made in Ireland. Using MGATweak my defauly values are 150.5/201.5. This baby flies. Will start the overclocking exercise tonight.
Initial 3Dmark values with PIII-450 @ 600
800*600 16bit 5864
Running AGP 2X, no hacks required, installation with 5.30 went without a hitch.

Actually, the Max I got turned out to be an engineering sample that was indeed clocked slighly lower at 196MHz.
I just assumed it was newly manufactured since the Maxes were previously unavailable, the card was shrink-wrapped, and the BIOS version was 1.5.
