    Chucky,
be warned: WIN2K RC2 has DX7 enforced, which will disable D3D unless you have a DX7 certified driver (which 5.30 is not, I guess). Dual-booting RC1/RC2 is a very wise idea for that matter.
BTW, did you get Dual Head working under W2K ?

      rogier,

i leave myself in the hands of matrox on the d3d issue. i'm not one to rush, i'd rather matrox take their time and get it right the first time.

i haven't got win2k installed yet as i am waiting on my 9.1 GB cheetah drive so i can split it in half and then dual-boot between win98se and win2k.

      chucky

          Hi chucky!

I know our motherboards already have 64-bit slots. In fact the SCSI controllers are connected using a 64-bit wide bus. Anyway that 400W ps is a very weird. You might have a problem indeed with all the peripherals you have put in there! Anyway this motherboard is aimed at servers and I suppose this is why a powerful power supply is recommended. If you read the manual however, you'll see that it refers to 300W as a minimum.

I tried to install redhat 5.1 on my pc but it won't recognise the scsi controllers and as a result neither the HD so I can't install it. LSI logic provides drivers for Solaris, SCO UNIX but not for linux (argh!!). What version of linux did you try?

The 3Dmark scores are relatively low for your machine... I get 4750 3Dmarks with a 450 PII (now this, since it doesn't take advantage of SSE is less than half your FPU performance). Anyway it seems that our motherboard and the 440GX chipset sacrifice stability over performace.

            GD,

I have a 400 watt PS, and have NO problems. i never shut this thing off...it is plugged into a 1400 VA UPS. that second monitor gets its' power from the power supply. like i said NO problems.

What I was talking about was my friends computers. I'm an electronic technician by trade with a degree in mechanical engineering so i get asked a lot to fix my friends computers. i couldn't beleive how many of them had <200 watt power supplys'...

3dmark is the first benchmark program i've ever bought, i was wondering how my scores compare. my games are silky smooth at 1024x768 @ 32 bit though and thats enough for me.

anyways i didn't get my 9.1 gb cheetah drive today...wah wah wah so i'll have to wait to install win2k...later!
