  • Linux with Matrox G400 Max

I have Red Hat 6.0 installed in my computer, and everything works fine with my Viper 770, but now, with Matrox i don't known how to configure the X.
Where i can found drivers? How i configure these?

    Best regards

RH6.1 and LinuxMandrake6.1 both utilize xfree86 3.3.5, I am currently running Mandrake6.1 and it looks mighty nice with the g400max at 1600x1200 32bit. If you are using gnome and enlightenment, e 0.16.0 just came out the other day and looks purdy.

My Matrox G400 was easy as heck to set up in RH6.1 (x3.3.3.5) I also got the glx.so module installed from (oops I forgot). BUT i can't get q3test to work. i am using 1.08 but it cant get a picture (i'm going to check to see if I am pointing to the right GL driver again but i think i am). If anyone knows how to get q3test working in linux email me or post. (hansencp@earthlink.net) PS. works great with x4.0 snapshot (but you have to configure manually or tell it you are using g200 and then make appropriate changes in XF86Config. BUT (always a caveat) will not load glx module. (there are significant changes in the module loading structure etc. i think).

        sorry for long post. out.

          Yes!!
XFree86 3.3.5 is the way to go for G400!!
Took lots of my time trying to set it up using XFree 3.3.3 in Redhat 6.0 but all ended up in failures.
XFree 3.3.5 really breeze thru' the whole setup process and you'll be able to run your KDE or GNOME in its 1024x768 @ 32bit glory!!

          :-D

According to the xfree docs, 3.3.5 or newer can support "the maximum possible resolutions"

              2048x1534@32bpp or whatever

To get quake 3 to work make sure you have 640x480 configured in your /etc/XF86Config or /etc/X11/XF86Config for all you Redhat (and possibly Mandrake) users. Just add it in the Modes line after your normal resolution. If X still crashes use CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE to kill it.

Check out http://glx.on.openprojects.net/ Mostly the mail list or the FAQ for help.

I did a startx -- -bpp 32 and it worked. I benchmarked a few at HQ. 10fps but only went to 13 at 6x4 Normal. but now it is crashing again. back to work. mostly experimental since playing quake in linux at 10fps is really not an option when i can play in w98 at 55fps. anyway thanks.
