  • G200 + W2K DDC problem

My W2K can't detect P&P MAG 770T (like XJ700T). The monitor is reported as "Default" or sometime "Plug and Play" and only once as "770T". The string reported may change during one session. DDCtest reports "Video BIOS doesn't support DDC".
Looks like W2K overwrites a video BIOS shadow in RAM. Same configuration work well on Win98.

    Configuration:
PIII 450 64M (memory is too expensive now)
    Biostar M6TBA motherboard
Millenium G200 AGP + last BIOS
    Quantum 13Gb
    SB16 (it's a workstation, not a gamestation)
    Boca 33600
    3Com Ethernet
    MAG 770T

    W2K RC2

The same problem occure with old and new G200 BIOS and with Microsoft and Matrox drivers (versions NT 4.21, 4.22).

    Any help would be appreciated.

No comment on using a Matrox card under W2K, but I can tell you that DDCtest doesn't work under NT or W2K.

Thanks for reply, but W2K itself can't detect monitor type too. Same with PowerStrip.

      It's additional observation:
No IRQ is reserved for the card by Microsoft drivers.
      Memory C0000-C7FFF isn't reserved too.

      May this cause a problem?
Is a Matrox G200 driver for W2K exist?

Well, now you've run into a limit of Matrox cards in general under W2K.

The PowerStrip fully supports DDC under W2K, and another W2K update will be posted in a couple of days, but you must be using a card that works under W2K to begin with.

Matrox will no doubt get around to supporting W2K eventually, and when they do it will probably equal what other companies are doing. But if you can't wait, well, there are plenty of alternative cards available.

You won't be the first person who has had to pass over these otherwise excellent cards because of the comparatively poor NT/W2K support...
