Having just got my G400MAX (direct from matrox) I was dissapointed to find it going wrong after only 2 hours use.
The problems are :-
(1) The DVDMax feature doesnt work any more (it did at first), when I play a video file (using the latest version of Media Player, I dont have a DVD drive) the second displays image is corrupted (random rows of dots, looks like corrupted video memory to me), below the corruption the video is playing but only at about 4 f/ps.
I have no problem using the clone feature or multi-monitor functions (ie no corruption), but the zoom function doesnt work (just a black screen on the second display).
(2) Im am getting random (not very frequent) lockups, when this happens I usually get "shimmering" pink/purple vertical lines down the screen.
(3) And to cap it all I have had almost a complete HD corrupted, losing about 3/4 of the files on the disk.
I have reinstalled windows and drivers etc. to the state they were in when the card was originally working but continue to get the corrupted DVDMax feature and occasional lock up.
Thankfully no more disk corruption has occured (yet)!!
My friend also got a G400 MAX on the same day and he is having similar problems straight away (atleast I got it working for about 2 hours)!!
My point is it looks like the G400 (especially the MAX) has been rushed out with little Quality Control checks.
It is either poor quality components/build or (as I suspect) the G400 has been rushed to market before it is really ready!!
It is not just me having problems I have seen countless people having problems of various sorts that was only solved by a replacement card!
I never used to hesistate to recommend Matrox cards to people, but I now I would tell them to steer clear (of atleast the G400) for the time being.
p.s. I think the display quality is fantastic, on my cheapish 15" montor it has reduced the "effects" I used to get when going higher than 800x600 to almost zero and is a quite a bit sharper than any other card I've used on it!
GREAT CARD!! (WHEN IT WORKS!!)
