  • OpenGL screensavers and the G400

I haven't posted for ages so Hi everyone

    OK here's my little problem

I love trippy screensavers like VoodooLights, but every OpenGL screensaver I have ever used on my G400, with every new driver since 5.13, crashes horribly on exit. With the latest driver its even worse; all the icons in windows go white until I change resolutions. Wierd!

    Here's a not-very-exciting example:

BOREALIS caused an invalid page fault in
    module G400ICD.DLL at 017f:691a77ff.

I know its hardly life threatening but any ideas?

    Hi,

i would simply make sure that you are using the 5.30, and that your desktop is in either 16 or 32 bit... might also want to try with dial head disabled...

I am afraid the Windows OGL Screensavers are not using the 3d-hal of the G400... That's why they work in Multi-Monitor mode.
the G400 ICD dont work in Multi mode.

same problem here with voodoolights 1.2.3 & OGL so I use D3D & no problems at all and FPS counts from 49-108 @1024x768x32 in COSMOS & about 39-75 in LIGHTS...I think thats not bad.. !

          Thanks all

Zwisch: yep, I'm doing it all just like you said

WereWolf: I have no idea what you are talking about man

Borg: The d3d version gives me horrible flickering - I haven't tried since going to 5.30 though, i'll check in a sec. What about all those screensavers that are OpenGL only??

Maybe its just a G400ICD problem? Haig?!

BTW i love the new msg board, thanx ANT!!

Ok got the new VoodooLights (1.2.4)
            At 1152*863, 32bit:
            Horribly flickery in D3D
Dog slow (14FPS) and crashes in OpenGL.

Grrrrrrr. Someone put me out of my misery please!

                Hi !

well I try it & works fine here no flickering or crushing in D3D or OGL only in OGL problems while exit the SS, it stays in task & must be shutdown by hand CTRL+ALT+DEL..

                FPS :
                COSMOS 1024x768x32 D3D=33-59 OGL=18-45

                LIGHTS 1024x768x32 D3D=31-45 OGL=17-39

D3D is OK & fast enugh for smooth watching but OGL is a litle bit chopy...

                WIN98SE+DX7+PD5.3.0+ICDfrom5.20...

Thanx Borg! Not for telling me how to fix it, but for inspiring me to keep trying

I've done much prodding and poking and...Eureka! I found it:

Reduce motion blur to zero, et voila, silky smooth voodoolights I turned it up through habit as I used to on my old TNT.

Oh just one thing: is this a bug in the G400 drivers? or is motion blur a hardware level thingy?

Well whatever it looks cool! Thankyou and goodnight

I didnt get MOTION BLURING working eather with my old G200 or G400 so I dont knowe ,but I dont think thats a driver problem because it didnt work with all previous drivers(5.13,5.21,5,25) & it still dont work well with 5.30 ...he! I dont mis it so I dont care !

Im gled you get this sucker working.. !

                    just V.Lights 1.2.3. are faster then 1.2.4..

                    bye!
